Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Numbers on a spreadsheet

I keep wondering what can make employees more valuable at EM.

How to be of value to the company?

Because, having expertise alone, judging by my experience, definitely doesn’t help anyone become indispensable here.

Become some executive’s pet.
Ask softballs. Praise their visionary leadership. Grovel for their approval.
That’s 90% of the job.

Take credit for the work of others.

Post things on Yammer about savings from every action in your group even if you were not involved. You will get all the credit.

Sell your soul to the devil.

having expertise alone,<

Expertise is not enough. Before I retired from EM, I had personally set 33% of all EM subsea trees in water depths exceeding 1500 ft. I was hot sh!!t within EM because my expertise was in demand. Today, things have changed. My ‘expertise’ would not be in demand. Expertise alone is not enough. Good luck, peace - jg
