Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Who are the star employees?

This is the only company I have worked at so far where a star employee can be someone who does not deliver results and does not meet or exceed targets. At one time, the star employees here were extremely talented employees, standout performers. In our team now, there is only a person who is favored for an unknown reason.

star employees are those who work day and night to please their manager do what he/she wants not the customer- ensures good reviews and protected position.

OP -- In Folsom DDR PHY team, I remember one star employee used to go to director house to perform household chores. In PCH team (I left intel long time so don't know new name of group but group who makes chipset) there is one Indian manager who reports to Mike Hurley has full time job of buttering Mike. To become star employees you have to be in your manager's favorite list not excellent work.

Star employees at Intel are entirely determined by caste and village of origin.

Star employees these days have very brown noses. Every once in a great while an manager/supervisor is fair and truly talented/productive folks are appropriately rewarded. However, those planets align infrequently.

This can happen at any company. Manage your career. To grow, the work that you do has to have a visible impact outside of your team. Then your talents can't be denied. If your manager is no help to you then maybe you should leave the team. The relationship between you and your manager is what you need to care about. It is an essential part of your career.
