Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Offers

I was told that offers of six months salary are coming in June. Sign up to leave by October 31st, and get six months pay. Supposed to be for PD folks. Not sure if other organizations will get the same. Anyone know anything about this? Thanks.

@jdzf+1g8CTz1D "to move personnel to sh---y obscure positions without future"

This remind me of Milton in Office Space. Are they at least, allowed to take the red stapler with them?

Seriously now. Not enough "ba--s" to do the right thing, nor to tell the truth, our management is making people uncomfortable, hoping that they give up on their own. Sh---y move Ford!

Confirming post by Post ID: @7lze+1g8CTz1D
as of last week; at least 10 people RWD Trans were farmed out to other positions without consulting them. Some of them refused to switch jobs and retired
from FWD Trans at least 7 people were moved against their will to other positions. 3 of them resigned and found jobs with suppliers. At TDE several LL6's positions were cut and at least 10 people confirmed planning to retire since they do not want to be relocated. According to a couple of those who decided to retired the new strategy to force retirement / resigning is to move personnel to sh---y obscure positions without future (Ford Blue)

After being SRD'd a few years ago, I found there's really is life after Ford. My suggestion is take your personal items home now, and tell your supv you'll take the involuntary separation pkg (as those pkgs will not get any better). Once the departure date is set - take the money and run. I found there is a big wide world out here and it really doesn't revolve around Ford! Plus by leaving now you'll be ahead of the exiting crowd and have the top pick of jobs.

@7lze+1g8CTz1D I am as cynical about Ford as anybody, but that long post seems farcical.

What parts of PD are in Ford Blue?

Involuntary separations coming to all Ford Blue divisions; Powertrain, Engine, Underbody, etc. Ford Blue young engineers are being transferred to Model e divisions / sections and "mature" = old engineers at Model e are being "invited" to replace = transferred back to Ford Blue positions. Selected seasoned engineers are relocated because they are former FCG's with active mentors still in the hierarchy supporting them. Headcount model was botched last year and the revised personnel reductions were not met by end of 2021. Since voluntary separation packages were not popular in the last two offering, Dearborn is looking for a strategy to cut "mature" engineers w/o compromising lawsuits. There are many engineers with more than 30 years seniority that are still lingering around, a decent percentage are LL6's, since Ford struggled to retain talent the plan is to "retire" as many LL6's with 25+ years to leave the door open to promote "young" talent. A Systems manager told his people that he was told to reduce his personnel as much as possible without knowing by how much. That manager already farmed out several of seasoned engineers to other positions within Ford. Other engineers who could not move last year because they were blocked now are moving out to work for other OEM's. Talking with other co-workers recently, the mood is "whatever". Ford Blue is expected to become an independent company as Ford did w/Visteon in the past and all of those with pension packages will be part of Ford Blue. The plan is to severe pension packages declaring bankruptcy as GM and Chrysler did in 2008 so all White Collar pension liabilities are gone legally.

Ford will cut 10 % of it work force by end of the year. Michigan has lots of problems when come to talent. CA is wining and this will just make it worse!

We just had a voluntary salaried separation program in 2021. If Ford follows their normal pattern, this year will be involuntary.

To the question below, if you have less than 5 years you won't get much severance and you don't have a pension, so a package means very little.

Holding out for involuntary, filing for unemployment, and delaying a lump sum pension is not a good idea. Look at the rising interest rates. Lump sum payouts are going down next year.

"Take you pension in cash and leave the company. This is what many Ford employees are going to do this year."

I assume this if for people who have been at Ford for 20+ years? Curious what the best option(s) would be if you have under 5 years and took this package?

Yeah 6 months isn't much. Back in 17 it was a whole year. Depending on how long you've been there, a SIRP might be as much if not more. Plus you can collect the elevated unemployment that the government keeps extending and then when the runs out, file for them lump sum retirement.

Carefully review the differences between voluntary and involuntary, there are presently better terms for involuntary when you consider health and severance.

If you really want a package and aren’t confident you will get a package then take the package as it is a clear signal involuntaries will happen

Not yet - but it smells of the targeted SIRP offers made last year; only to select individuals of select areas, not widespread.

If it is true, take the offer and run, then if you can, file for retirement and take the pension in cash....then don't look back.
