I think people confuse the word “happiness” with the word “productivity.” People are definitely happier working from home. But at the end of the day, a desk is just a desk regardless of where it is. If you have a good work ethic, you’ll be productive whether you’re at home or in the office. People worked for decades in the office without any problems. Just have to get used to it again.

Many will not agree with this, but I think @1ved+1g3gkQZH hits the nail on the head.

Well, if chaos and divisiveness were the goals, they succeeded. Everyone passionately fights over vaccinated versus unvaccinated, mask or no mask, return to office or stay at home. All contrived sow division and cause chaos, disrupting our families, schools, and workplaces. Now that they've won, they're surprised that they can't turn the spigot back on. Brilliant.

Good news! The bank isn’t forcing anyone to go back. Everyone has a choice.

If you don’t like your employer, you can quit and find a company that offers WFH. By staying, you’re agreeing to do what the company asks of you in return for a paycheck. If you’re not happy with what they are asking you to do, then just quit and leave. It’s not that hard.

They pay you. You do what they ask you to do. If you don’t want to do what they ask, then you quit.

Unless you can’t find another job. But that’s a whole different topic.

Kids do better because they lack the social and intellectual ability to interact in a virtual way without losing something in the process.

The vast majority of workers here grew up with technology and virtual interaction in a major way and can adapt and thrive a bit easier. I find it funny that the folks typically pushing so hard for RTO tend to not be technologically inclined either. It's a new world and a new way of doing things, adapt or fall to the wayside.

"even kids" - you nailed it, that's the perspective of us from the overlords, not that of skilled, adaptable and flexible professionals. So make sure to come in for adult daycare, you might get snacks and juice boxes.

I do think there is a correlation between attendance and performance. Even kids do better when they are onsite.

Happy employees definitely tend to be more productive employees, however the problem is when happiness gives way to privileged. Privileged employees are rarely, if ever, more productive employees.

I’m curious as to why so many unhappy people stay and complain instead of just quitting. I know there are valid reasons, and I’m just trying to understand why. If you’re a productive employee with a good work ethic, you shouldn’t have any problems finding a new job. There was even one poster who got 4 interviews this week (kudos!).

You’re confusing the word “decades” with “dinosaur”…. “People worked for dinosaurs for years..” Nobody is fine with working for a dinosaur.

You sound like the same mo--ns that kept saying “if you can go into a grocery store you can go to work..” 15 minutes in a grocery store va 8 hrs in a poorly ventilated office is a stupid comparison.

I had 4 interviews this week, all 2nd and 3rd rounds for a hybrid/ remote position.

You have to take control of your own life and what you want. Sitting around and waiting for them to change is futile. Ain’t gonna happen.

Fingers crossed I get and offer by end of next week.

Life is constantly in flux, change is the way of the world, and things move forward. If employers think they can simply trick us all into forgetting the last two years then they’re stupider and greedier than they appear.

A revolution is happening, and we, the workers, have the collective power and strength.

"You just have to get used to it again". The bank should drop mobile and online banking and costly computers and go back to typewriters and carbon paper on credit card receipts. The customer will just get used to it again, the bank had used typewriters for decades without a hitch.

The only reason they won’t allow WFH is because they need all their real estate (buildings) full with people so those people can do business with local vendors (restaurants, shops, parking, etc). It’s a political thing. Local government wants you in your seat so those local bus don’t go under.

When you RTO be sure to pack a lunch and don’t give any of those places any of your money. That’ll teach ‘em.

All other things being equal, a happier employee will be more productive than when they're unhappy. That's been proven many times over. For years WFH was something that was discounted as impossible. The past two years have shown it's not. Now that a better option has proven itself, refusing to use it in the face of success here and elsewhere simply based on "we've always done it that way" attitude leaves a bad impression on how leaders adapt and grow. Being the last company to stick with horse travel because cars don't have that live-beast connection with their operators didn't work out well for that last holdout. As long as mgt pushes the excuse of 'we're better when we meet in person' to thousands who work with teammates and managers in other cities, they'll continue to be the lord master and not the leader they need to be.
