Special Lump Sum Pension Payment Offer?

Heard that some NRE have received notifications that there is a Special Lump Sum offer coming soon.

Please give details if you received such a notification.

Is this only for NRE or will this include RE?

What kind of envelope/letterhead did the flyer come with? Did it look like a legit ExxonMobil address or did it look sketchy (misspelling/etc.) like a scam?

I also received a flyer in the postal mail. Says a phone number will be established to contact later in May. How much has been the buyout of folks for 7-10 years experience folks in past ? What is the discount rate that may be used if you are under 50 ?

If you resign before being retirement eligible, they have been offering a pension buyout. You vest in pension after 5 years and will have some benefits that you earn. After 7 years, ending as a CL25, my buyout was around $70k. I rolled it into an IRA so it will grow into more than it would've been if I took the annuity at 67.

It is completely a scam.
I suspect either Lee R or Rex T children recently got degrees and have been asked to find jobs. Their advisor (based in London via Moscow) suggested this as some 'quick money' to cover for the other failures.

It's legit. The intent is to clean the ledgers up as much as possible. Dont get too excited about getting a good deal though. The lump sum is at a fairly high rate. However, if you are young, treat it as found money and move on.

It is a scam, nitwits. I saw the “flier”: it has all the Exxon logos on it, but has no real address and tells you NOT to contact “Benefits” as they won’t know about the program.
If you don’t believe me, please send me your bank account number as I need to store $5M temporarily .

HR made a change about two years ago that you can take the discounted lump sum upon resignation. I think they are trying reduce overhead/future commitments by cutting ties. So it makes perfect sense that they would start working to retroactively do the same with previous resignees.

The bigger question is what about current employees...is the pension being phased out...dunno on that one.

I resigned in 2013 and just received a flyer in the mail about this and it stated more details to come in May.
