Bad ranking and animosity from the boss

I shudder when others start advising that nothing here should be taken personally. Oh yes, many things are very personal. I’m curious, how many employees think they are badly ranked just because they’re not among their superior’s favorites, or because their boss feels some animosity toward them?

....The company could lose 50% of management overhead tomorrow and not lose a step going forward.....

Actually a 50% management loss will improve morale, retention and productivity.

And it will save more.

If you are perceived as an employee who consistently tells the truth to your manager, you will be ranked low for "lack of cultural fit" and "not a team player".

"Courage of Conviction" means that you tell your management team what they want to hear to enhance their personal careers instead of the "Brutal Truths".

My experience is that many of the people that get ranked high spend more time bragging about their accomplishments (or the work of others) than actually doing work that adds value.

The company could lose 50% of management overhead tomorrow and not lose a step going forward.

They know this themselves and that they have no marketable skills outside the company. Which is why they play the game so hard and protect each other.

Being impersonal is the sign of a strong company, strong country, strong society, strong species.
Gotta believe in something, right?

All levels of management are Castrati (male or female) and technically are not persons.
Unless they are well paid to sing at a very high pitch. Which they are.
So - in this organization at least - supervisory eunuchs are persons.

so take it personally.
burn a candle or stick a pin, whatever your favored method of revenge.

Get out. Your mgmt line, sup included is likely flying blind…. Good bet that the TTL is overloaded with picking up the pieces and trying to find meaning for your team. No goals are ever set, no agreement ever truly takes place…. Assessment is just a moving target and a matter of luck.

Oh, that would not be a good group to work in. I would hate that situation. If that is the case then get out. Take care. Peace.

I have heard that phase a lot in the last 3 years. The phrase stings for sure on a personal level; it’s been said to me several times in my career.

My technical skill set is out of favor and not currently in demand. I think that affects ranking.

In many companies, you set-up the goals/target at beginning of the year, and at the end of the year, you will be evaluated whether you reach the goals or not. At EM, you personally can know that you have delivered more than previous year, but end-up still not in good ranking, because apparently other people in your rank group also performed better than you....if you ask your supervisor how you can improve your ranking, you will never get a concrete answer...for me - that is a sign that the system is flawed!!
Your mental health is more important rather than have to deal with the fake system...
