A former coworker who couldn't wait to get out is looking for a way back to EM less than a year since he left. I keep telling people that while EM is not perfect, nothing is! I'm not saying to stay put at all costs, but those rushing to get out are bound to get burned. Whether you like it or not, EM is one of the better places to work right now. I wouldn't rush to get out if I was you.

Most people at XOM have not worked somewhere else and do not know what to look for in their next employer. Many will make poor choices and consider coming back. This is more an issue of people not making smart choices than we are a good employer.
If you want to leave no problem - don’t just leap at the first thing you see.
Typical management drivel. PDS season is here, so we get some high-quality morale lifting. And we really believe your c_rap.
EM management is just about to figure out what's happening. The latest survey results will finally reveal what's going on with employees and they'll be able to turn the ship around!
OP is right, just give EM management another 10 years or so and I’m sure they’ll start treating employees right. Don’t stop believing!
let your coworker hire on at the O&A chemical plant in Beaumont and THEY and THEM will break your coworker in 6 months.
'EM is one of the better places to work right now'... Compared to what places?
Cool story bro...
If that person has a valuable set of skills outside of oil and gas, then I assure you they would not be wasting any time thinking about XOM.
Confirmation bias. Your former coworker's story resonates with you because it confirms what you already believe. And you tell yourself that "EM is one of the better places right now" to justify to yourself why you don't leave.
EM is good only for the top 20%. For the rest there is probably many better places.
