Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Medical Accom. ?

I took a full-time remote role about 10 years ago, for health reasons. I never felt the need for an accommodation because the role was full-time WFH. I was always willing to go in for bigger meetings/onsites, I just cannot commit to 3 days a week/every week. I am dragging my feet on applying for Med Accommodation - but plan on submitting one. Will it negatively impact my accommodation request if I start going in 1 day a week ?

When you submit an accommodation request, you don't have to go in while it is being decided. they are taking 6-12 weeks to process. Make sure you have a doctor or doctors that are willing to say you have a medical reason to not be in the office on a routine basis. Don't share details of your medical condition with your manager. The only thing they need to know is that you have applied, and so you are excused from RTO until adjudicated. If the reason is found valid, then your manager will be asked "can this job be done WFH without creating undue hardship to the team" and since you've been WFH for 10 yrs the answer to that will most likely be yes.

@1lnv+1gETppSM don't be an a__hole.

Count yourself lucky that you don't live with a medical issue that limits your activities,

There are plenty of legit conditions that would make occasional trips OK but routine commutes not OK.

Grow up.

I was WFH for almost 10 years, but in 2021 I decided applying for a medical accommodation was the best route for me. It was a fairly easy process and fortunately was approved. I am not required to go on site for anything (i.e. trainings, leadership meetings, etc.). However, I have a medical condition they cannot accommodate in an office setting. I know of someone else who applied for one due to medically unable to drive and was told to Uber/Lyft/taxi the hour to/from work each day with their request denied since "alternative transportation" was available, even though mass transit was not (bus, subway). They left WF shortly after for a WFH position at a smaller bank. So, it will be dependent on your medical need and if WF feels they can accommodate it. Best of luck!

let's not forget that an accomodations doesn't necessarily have to be work from home

Submit the request and dont go in. Give an overview of your health condition and if possible some Dr. documentation. They will ask some follow ups, so I found it useful to have more documentation from another Dr as to my own health challenges. HR addressed the issue and frankly the assigned person from HR was very nice and listened when he and I spoke. I was granted the exception just one week after the RTO date. It takes them some time to go thru all the requests so talk to your manager and explain your situation. You dont have to be too specific but I decided to let my Manager know the extent of my health challenges just to ensure a measure of support. Who knows, maybe I'll get laid off in the big one in June.

All accommodations for WFH require you to come in for trainings and meetings, you don’t get a choice. Get a life.

Also, to OP- I was told to keep working from home while my request was reviewed. So that’s what I did until I was approved.

Wait, so you have to work from home but can make it in whenever requested? So the medical issue is depends on the day?

submit the request and don't go in. within my group anyone with a pending request can stay WFH until decided. my guess is it's the same for others as well. currently running 6-12 weeks to get a decision.
