Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

People that have been laid off

I would love to hear how people are doing that have actually been laid off from Dell within the last two years. I can say personally it was the best thing that ever happened to me, and I honestly loved Dell. What I didn't realize was how underpaid I was or how much I really needed the change (I was there almost 15 years). I am now getting paid $55k more a year between my salary going up dramatically and my yearly bonuses, and my benefits are also way better, plus still 100% remote. So really I am curious as to how others' experiences have been. Best of luck to everyone - getting laid off is NOT the end of the world.

I'm shocked at the people advising others to quit. Make them give you the year's pay and insurance.. you earned it.

Dell laid me off in September 2020. I was an I9 in engineering. They recently contacted me to fill a similar role with same level of impact and responsibility but would not bridge my 22 years of service and wanted to start me as an I7. After I stopped laughing, we ended the discussion. Cheap bast***s.

Getting laid off from Dell was the best thing that ever happened to me. I hated the politics and the constant re-organizing and always wondering. Opportunities have literally been falling in my lap since. I do not miss some of the backstabbing b***hes I worked with either. I did meet some other people there that were pretty great though as well. I guess it’s like that everywhere! My best advice is if you’re not happy leave - the job market is great.

I didn't realize what a sweatshop filled with incompetent lackey management Dell was until they laid me off and I found much better work. Thank you for the paid vacation Mikey.

Doing well. Less stress, smaller workload, and better benefits. Dell conveniently contacted me 13 months post layoff for an entry level job, leading me to believe the company didn’t want me to keep my seniority. A decade is a long time.

I occasionally miss the work and colleagues/few friends, but it seems like one must brown nose to be “safe” since exceeding goals and leading the team as a model employee didn’t cut it apparently

I stopped working for Dell a year ago. The only reason I didn’t quit is that they’re still paying my salary :-)

I’m a consultant now working for myself. I’ve never made so much money in my life. It’s true never get ahead working for someone else.

I'm elated to be out of dell. I'm still in Pre Sales but am making 92K more than what dell payed me. The screwed me on money from the getgo. When I was hired I thought it was a good opportunity, boy was I wrong.

Folks, a layoff is the actual gravy train.. Unemployment.. Best labor market in your whole life to find a new job.. They aren't d-mb enough to lay you off. They will PIP you instead, and they fire you FOR CAUSE. So they don't have to pay - spend that PIP quarter looking and you'll find what you went looking for. Better, don't wait until the PIP, start looking today. Or planning your exit. The question you should be asking yourself, is why in the literal fck are you at a company where you sell more and get paid the same ? Think about that for a moment. Where else does that happen ? So I ran a 5 minute mile, now I have to run every mile at 5 minutes, or LESS ? What kind of fcked up logic are we using over here ? Go at it yourself, or with a small business, and you'll actually get paid. The biz will always squeeze a little more water out of the towel if it can, just don't let yourself get rung dry. This ain't Mike's company anymore; your company is what your VP's and their minions have made it into. Also, if you happen to be white, or if you happen to be male (God help you if you are both) you have no viable promotion path. The only way is if someone opposite your metrics moves up with you. Your destiny is tied to that of some nameless person who happens to fit the right race/s-x metrics for their overall need for balance - what a crock of total bullsh*t - take your high performing *ss somewhere it will be paid and respected based on performance and not gender or race.

About the same as OP - now making a little more than my Dell salary (not $55K), bonus eligibility is bigger, better title for the resume/CV and still remote. The stress is lower & there’s much less management bs. Folks were right when they said the layoff would be a blessing, eventually.

I haven't heard any official lay off plans but a lot of talk of it among sale's staff in certain area's.
Its the uncertainty that's the tough part.
Not sure what area you worked but glad to hear it worked out.
