Translating OP’s post from managerialese into plain English:
Lick your supervisor’s boots as much as you can. If he’s in a good mood, after he ranks your sponsored colleagues at the top, maybe he will allow you to survive one more year. Also don’t forget to brown nose all the other supervisors - they are Gods who can ki-l your job any time. Just don’t imagine that once you are not sponsored you actually have a career at EM. Short term survival is all you can hope for.

Well. Shaking the money-maker never hurts.
Well. It does hurt. But it is worth it.

Wow OP, great advise. You sound like you are well on track to being just like every other awful self-serving manager out there.

But here’s a word of advice: If you are alienating your peers in the process, you better be darn sure you are better than them. …because if any one of them jump you to a promotion, your gig is up. They are probably observing your personality sideways and up. That personality opinion persists a lot longer than performance on one assignment.

If you have a mediocre supervisor, get him/her promoted (i.e. transferred) as fast as you can so that he/she becomes another employees problem.

Sometimes just having more knowledge and experience pi---s off your supervisor and the supervisor tanks your ranking for self protection.

After a ranking session, a department manager told me that my career could not survive another year under my manager. Two more years under that id--t and I was NSI.

Sorry to burst your bubble but life is not that simple. But good advice to not pi-s of your supervisor, that certainly doesn’t hurt.
