Was on a call. Someone brought up the agile team maturity survey. Lots of people were pushing back on the validity of the maturity survey.
The presenter got a little frustrated. They stated they thought the survey was stupid too. People kept pushing back.
Finally presenter says, "look they spend 70 million dollars on these agile maturation surveys, they are committed to it."
70 million dollars. Wow, just wow.
Those surveys were so stupid. Half the time we had no clue what it was asking, but people are like "uh, 5." How can you be super amazing at it and h as very no clue what it is? And we did that sh-t 3, 4 times a year. For what?
$70MM? That's probably the agile staff + estimating what the teams spend on the surveys
I don't think they're all that useful frankly -- at least for our group. We're a bit different than the typical tech/development team.

My team tells them what they want to hear as well. It's a waste of time. With Agile I have at least 3 different "managers". My actual manager who has little idea what I do on a daily basis, the PO who is effectively my manager and the scrum master who wants to scheduled "how are you doing?" meetings with me every week (aka how can I make you work faster meetings). After 4 years I still fail to see how Agile is better than Waterfall.

The maturity surveys are stupid... Basically you had to get your team up to the highest level by X date and if you didn't, you were on the naughty list, and would have to answer a bunch of BS from the enterprise Agile group. The survey wording was horrible and didn't line up with WF agile implementation. We would waste hours on those stupid things..
Agile transformation done right can benefit the enterprise. Transformation done wrong will hurt the enterprise. We're on the "done wrong path" unfortunately. The business does not want agile and so it's game over for a successful transformation. SVB can have all the good metrics, but reality will rule in the end.

Scrum Master = guy with a whip who likes to make things as complex and time consuming as possible to justify being there

Probably 70 million for the whole agile transformation and not just the survey. Resistance is futile friend.
70 million sounds high to me.
The survey could be better if they fixed the lousy wording of the questions. Many teams are over rating themselves due to mgmt pressure and performance goals. Really no different from other aspects of the bank. A long way to go on agile transformation.
