I work in corporate and this whole time I thought security was doing well, I guess that is not the case.
As bad as product lead times and TAC support are now, I'm surprised Cisco has any income.
Elon will buy us. Then he will take Cisco private. But first, Cisco has to prove that it has less than 7% fake income.
After watching Cisco flail for 15 years to try and identify a new growth phase, it's clear that it can't be done within the current organization.
We argued that point in 2014 when we pushed for a new cloud subsidiary outside of the legacy organizational structure, but the powers that be wanted to be in charge even though they had no idea how to run a cloud business. It's been rinse and repeat for every new technology space since then.
No one can repair the damage already done by not developing an industry standard security portfolio.
Too late. Too many other much better choices.
Just like missing cloud years ago.
"Market does not give many chances to correct, look no further than lucent, Nortel, AOL etc etc"
It does if you have ENORMOUS government contracts, look no further than Boeing, General Motors, IBM, General Electric. We aren't in a free market.
Webex is being packaged for sale.
What do you expect from a global sales leader that had no previous sales leadership experience at any level. It will take years to recover from the disaster she is leaving.
Hire right skilled exec, please! (Applies to Engineering, Sales and CX)
Don't hire based on past titles and the ones that are well connected, and if all they can do it talk buzz words they have told by their advisors, then cut your losses and show the door quickly for these execs.
Hire domain experienced people and give them time and freedom to execute the vision. And rewards risk takers and quickly shun political people in leadership... Then see how the company turns around!
It's back to basics! (Market does not give many chances to correct, look no further than lucent, Nortel, AOL etc etc)
Jeetu seems like a decent guy. But Security and Collab are unsalvageable. I don't see him here for another 6-12 months. It may be best to sell the Collab pieces before the value goes to zero.
SB was shown the door. Her performance was substandard. Hopefully, if there is an announcement, its that Jeetu is exiting as well. He posts too much on Linkedin and SB was his hire for security. What made him think she could scale to that role? He needs to be held accountable. Oh, and collab is a mess as well. Cisco has lost massive market share during covid... under his helm.
I know SB got a trashed a lot here, but the patchwork products and acquisition strategy surely made her life difficult, if not hellish. Product is a mess.
Can someone articulate in a few concise sentences, what Cisco's go-forward security product strategy is?
Overpay for security acquisitions. Hope a few people stay after their stock vests that won't rock the boat
So going for tsa security role is reetarted right now then?
Big announcement from Jeetu.
What's happening on the 16th?
The announcement on the 16th will be earth shattering.
It won't make much difference.
Can someone articulate in a few concise sentences, what Cisco's go-forward security product strategy is?
Seriously.
A nice piece of gossip
