Lincoln: Dead brand walking. DNR coming?

The Lincoln brand has faced some tough results in recent studies, as just nine percent of luxury shoppers considered it in Kelley Blue Book’s Q3 Brand Watch Study last year, and consideration dropped to eight percent in Q4, too. Unfortunately for Ford’s luxury arm, even fewer consumers considered the Lincoln brand in Q1 of 2022, according to Kelley Blue Book’s latest Brand Watch Study.

This past quarter, Lincoln brand consideration dropped another one percent to finish at seven, tying it with Volvo and Land Rover. Those brands did rank ahead of Porsche, Jaguar, Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Rivian, Lucid, and Polestar, but well behind the segment-leading BMW, as well as Lincoln’s chief rival, Cadillac – which surged five percent quarter-over-quarter, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, Tesla, Audi, Acura, Buick, Infiniti, and Genesis.

The Kelley Blue Book Brand Watch report is a consumer perception survey that also weaves in consumer shopping behavior to determine how a brand or model stacks up with its segment competitors on a dozen factors key to a consumer’s buying decision. KBB releases two Brand Watch reports each quarter – one for mainstream vehicles, and one for luxury vehicles.

@1hfp correct.
Still remember the all hands meeting @ WHQ when audience member asked if Ford intended to cede the luxury car market. The leadership response was, well we hope we can convince them to buy SUVs. A look around the audience showed shock and dismay that the whole plan was hope and a wing and a prayer. Turns out they did basically cede the luxury car market.

Luxury customers do not want SUVs. They want sedans. Until Ford realizes that and pivots, Lincoln will continue to hemorrhage market share.

Lincoln's are only bought on price. I doubt many aspire to own a Lincoln. Horrible brand management, horrible ads, boring cars, old school dealerships - yeah some of the newer SUVs are better now, but still, they skimp on Lincolns to keep commonality with the Ford models. I saw that first hand when I worked on the newer Expedition/Navigator program. Didn't want to spend the money on unique tooling to help differentiate the brands. It takes money, to make money.

Besides, aren't Lincolns just Fords with lock washers???

How did your Ford stock do today - nuff said!

Alan was right
No business case for Lincoln at the level of investment Ford was willing to make
But they won't ki-l it because 1) it was Jim's idea to keep the brand when Alan wanted to ki-l it and 2)Ford Family will want to keep Lincoln no matter what. Even though brand probably loses half a billion a year, easy

There is no accountability at Ford. None. Zilch. I've seen recall after recall (even very recent ones) caused by mistakes that should never have happened and no kidding, the responsible party either got a LL6 or LL5 promotion or magically kept their job with no repercussions or coaching of any kind.
On the Lincoln front, changing to all suvs is really awful horrible idea for a luxury nameplate. Thankfully Cadillac and even the Chrysler 300 fill that role for America at least. Now our Lincoln suvs are indeed nice. The Aviator should be so much more a hit than the sales show. But, thats what horrid quality, terrible launch, and not getting the good word out for the vehicle will do to it. Who is held responsible for that, I guess it was henrichs? Let me tell you.....it wasnt him.

@oox+1gHcsRhy "accountable?"

Accountable? At Ford? Pleeease, everyone that works at Ford know that word was replaced, together with quality, loyalty, honesty and many others, with empty words like affirmative action, non binary pronouns, inclusiveness, Ford's truths, etc.

Bill Ford can hide in his family's company, trying to appear as a "visionary" in human relationships, but sooner or later, reality will come knocking down the doors of his make believe palace. Get woke get broke!

I thought the soon to be gone Kumar Galhotra had revitalized Lincon. Seems it was all words and no delivery as usual.

This is happening under Farley’s “leadership,” when will he be held accountable?
