Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Max raise anyone ever got?

I just got an offer for a ~30% pay increase from a competitor. Is there any world where XOM gives me that much of a raise even if I get OwD with a CL bump?

I’m pretty sure the answer is no and that Exxon would say something like “we provide sustainable increases over the long term with job stability”

In my last week, before resigning, I was given a 15% raise at CL 24. It wasn’t enough to stay, the competitor I left for offered me a 45% raise.

Many ppl leaving Exxon for double and sometimes triple their compensation. Caveat is they are leaving the industry entirely. A few lower level folks left and are now earning more than their managers manager.

Feels like CL 28 isn’t as ‘few and far between’ as it used to be. Anyone else feeling like CL bumps were given quite freely in the last couple of years. Now, I would never say ‘no’ to a CL bump…just feels like some shift.

@OP Did you take the "~30% pay increase from a competitor"?

I don't remember because I didn't keep the post-its they were written on :(.
Think about that, we get our raises hand written on a frigging post-it.
Just like the RSU program. Keep it secret. FFS.
I got 12% once. I was pi---d. I realized how much I had been underpaid.

All these CL 28s and such on the Layoff board.
This company is cratering.
All chiefs and grunts eventually.
Those old cottonfields again.

Had a good manager when got from 27 to 28. Since I would be changing ranking groups with the expectation to drop ranking (and lower future salary increases) he pushed for two years of ~12% in a row, first without cl bump and then with the cl.
Got ~13% in my next promotions

In typical EM USA, 30% requires 2 CL promotions.

Biggest was 18% going to CL 28 8 years ago. Pushed me to 115% midpoint 1-5% since then.

I got 15% once but that was back in early 2000’s, ranking was top 10% (remember that system and how we all moaned about it then !!) and also made it to CL 28 at the same time.
Other than that it has been down hill all the way, only got 5% when I made CL29. This year less than 1% with VG.
I think the have moved all the T2 salary curves downwards now so unless you are OwD you can kiss goodbye to any meaningful raises from here to retirement.

I received 40+% in raises over a 13 month period after I transferred to a new site. RG50. Was an effort to bring me up to midpoint after being at a site that did not give me raises for many many years.

Why is it always about the money?

You work for a game-changer.
Guarantee. 200 years from now, there will be healthy rhinos and whales and salamanders running rampantly happy across this planet.
And a few humans here and there.

We are.

Got a 25% my 5th year in.
Turns out my manager for 5 years didn't believe a Colorado School of Mines graduate could be female and african-american. Gave me every low-level assignment for 5 years.
Really a fact.
His own school reflected his attitude. He is no more.

Same as others Are saying. 15% when I got a CL bump and ranked outstanding in the best of years.

You get the idea. Do note that some companies give a big carrot to get you in but then raises are just inflation match. Chevron does that, where raises are quite slim but bonuses are good.

As an experienced hire, you do need to build your network anywhere you go. So just hustle wherever you go and you will do well.

Life is too short to have regrets. If EM loves you, they might ask you back in few years with bigger promotion

First, management believes only id--ts would even consider leaving ExxonMobil. Since you are considering leaving (why else would you apply to another company), you just demonstrated your “stupidity” in management’s eye.

Also, even if they would match the offer (which they almost certainly would not), you would get no raises for the next several years until you return to your reference salary.

Finally, once management convinces you to stay, thus the crisis passes, they would drop your ranking since they would now see you as not a team player and not very smart (see first point above).

My advice is to take the new job. Congrats and good luck!

Got 15% last year for OwD with CL bump, that was the max far as I know and only at low CLs.

I could see at most maybe 15% from Exxon. If your new role is local (or online) definitely highly consider it. If it is in a high cost of living area, calculate how much more you are really making and decide if it’s worth leaving. I’d never leave for a 30% raise in California or New York. But I would if I didn’t have to move.

@OP+1gIU0mwi Thats great news! because the site I work at Management thinks that if we quit, we'll end up living in a box under a bridge. So, this is not true. Thanks @OP+1gIU0mwi for sharing. Not that all the bridges in Beaumont are bad we do have some nice ones.

If you want to stay with ExxonMobil, I would try negotiating. I am hearing of some people having success. Then come back to this forum and let us know how it goes.

Just don’t believe “It is coming but we are slow” speech. Give them a 1week deadline to match pay, and then resign.

Nope. You'd get 15% for a CL bump and top 1/3 ranking five years ago. The most you'd get now is probably 5-10%. Gotta get a CL bump every year just to keep up with inflation 😆

Yes, I got a similar raise by leaving Exxon and working for a competitor!

Let’s put it this way. They thought 3% would be enough to keep your pay in step with competition…

Something is wrong with the way XOM is benchmarking
