Quote from The Wire.
“You know what the trouble is, Brucey?” Sobotka asks. “We used to make stuff in this country, build stuff. Now we just put our hand in the next guy’s pocket.”

We have created an environment where things cost much more as a percentage of income. My first apartment was $80 a month or 10% of my income. Now even with a $20 an hour job it could be 50% of your income for rent. There was no internet or mobile phone adding to costs just to exist. Those things are needed now to do anything. Large corporations didn't buy up homes and apartment, invest in oil futures, trade commodity futures with no intention of taking delivery, etc. driving up prices for everything. Every aspect of life being put into some body's pocket. I'm waiting for the first breathable air fee to hit one of my bills. Income taxes may be low but add up all of the taxes and fees you pay on everything above what is advertised as the "cost" and you will cringe.

I could argue all day on this one… if people support grown kids/grandkids that’s their own fault just as much as it is the lazy kids fault.

Cut them off, make them figure out how to be self-sufficient on their own. That’s the best thing you could ever do for them.

You have it all wrong... Your hourly rate is all that matters... Total income divided by the actual number of hours you work in a year..

I work about 12 hours per week from home..

180k salary / (12 * 52) = 288 per hour :-)

If you have kids and grand kids, chances are you will be supporting them even in retirement. Unfortunately, we live in an era where younger people feel very self-entitled and continue to expect financial support from parents even in their late 20s, 30s and 40s. Many will have kids they cannot support too. It's really sad. That is when money really is pretty much everything.

The healthier you are, the longer you live, and the more money you'll need.

Health is everything, but hard to stay healthy without money so you have a point there
