Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Lazy workers

A non exempt manager that I directly supervise is possibly the laziest employee I've encountered. They don't do their basic job tasks in a timely manner and almost refuses to speak to certain other employees including myself, their direct manager, some days. Whenever I hold them to the same standards I hold every other employee to the make a comment they are calling my manager to discuss it, they have called my manager to say they shouldn't have been written up for absences when it is clear how many times they've called out. Their should be a clearer path to termination if an employee consistently does not meet the basic expectations of their role. How many times am I expected to coach an employee that has no interest in changing their behavior. People like that on the payroll are a waste of money that could be used to modernize the bank.

HRC has been a great help when I’ve been in a similar situation. Document and keep in touch with them for all issues. This approach takes time but effective if warranted.

Sounds like this person is a Service Manager in retail banking. They tend to suck.

Why can’t you put them on a PIP and document their failures to perform? Sure it will take some effort on your part, but I have seen people let go for things as basic as failure to learn new systems. You can’t just fire people because they’re not charming, but it can be done.

Never have I before worked for company (I left last year) where I've worked with so many LOSERS! I used to manage people that were on the payroll for 10, 15, 20 years who literally did next to nothing and senior management knew it! I felt it was almost payroll theft! The top executive used to tell us "well unless they are stealing from the company we basically can't fire them, or it's that hard to?!?" He-l, look at what some their top former executives did with the sales practices scandal, and the board let them retire!

I eventually got sick of it and no longer respected to organization or system, it is FLAWED! And the people who come to work and bust their butts every day and try to advance work, built a better bank and improve the company get 1 to 2% raises! F that!

Here is some advice - don't be loyal to Wells Fargo. They will lay you off in a NY minute, they don't care about anyone there! Look for other jobs, take control of your future, do something but bi--h and moan and move on!

It's news to me that a manager can be "non-exempt". But perhaps I have never worked in an area that has non-exempt managers.

Are they a minority?

Historically, it's been next to impossible to fire someone here for performance.

Seems like OP is venting because this person could be well connected or hard to fire for some reason
