You can try being incompetent and/or cause a major 100+ million dollar recall.

Trust me, it works. I have seen one case of a GSR8 become a LL6 and another case of a LL6 promoted to a LL5 with this strategy. Both cases within the past 6 years.

The OP raises the problem at the company right now. LL4s and LL5s reward their friends and the people that kiss their rear parts, and punish and fire anyone that dare "question" them. The culture has turned toxic the likes of which Ford has never seen.

The people saying work hard, be innovative etc, are living in the past. The new Ford is "Kiss the butts above you.....or get swept out."

Be productive. Be innovative. Be creative. Take a courses to advance your skills. Prove you can be a leader. Have good communication skills. Take a lateral move if needed to better chances for a promotion. Talk to your boss about your strengths and weaknesses. Set up a career advancement plan with your boss.

Is this what Ford and this website has come to? How do a kiss my managers rear to get promoted?

So sad that this was even asked. The question does show an inherent problem with Ford though. The rear kissing yes men/women will be promoted. The best person for the management position doesn’t get the job that often.

Sad times at Ford Motor

Ask the People Leader what you need to do to get a bump…. If the answer is your fine where you are or your too specialized…etc. Get moved to another People Leader. By the way who ever made the decision to call supervisors, people leaders has wind blowing between there ears and their nose is stuck in an orifice.

uzq+1gKOQ2Fl You a correct. My earlier bosses at Ford were seasoned veterans in their area of supervision.
I don't see much of that anymore. Instead, I hear things like well we like the way this person talks or conducts himself.

If are asking this question, you are not on the leadership track. If you were, you’d be an FCG and assigned a mentor and you would be given assignments to make you look good and be promoted. If you want to get a promotion, you may want to consider leaving the company instead of being stuck at GR8 for many years, only to be forced out if you are a top achiever since you make too much.

Oh for heavens sake, just have a lobotomy and parrot everything your LL5 says, drop gifts off at his house. The fact that you want to be an LL6 at Ford likely means you have no actual technical skills, so use those Ford “skills” suck up to the LL4 and LL3.

Elon Musk - “I strongly believe that all managers in a technical area must be technically excellent. Managers in software must write great software or it’s like being a Calvary captain who can’t ride a horse.”

Ford HR and leadership - managers do not need to know anything about the areas they manage. Managers should switch positions every 2-3 years. Technical experts should be culled and replaced with lower cost workers.

Any wonder why Ford is such a hot mess? A bunch of inept managers all making poor decisions, not admitting mistakes, errors compounding over time.
