Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Hubris of upper management

In a call recently, a higher manager actually said of the employees on the call: “You all are replaceable. Don’t think for a second that you are not.” That comment alone shows the lack of respect and plain old hubris of upper management towards employees. In fact, it’s the upper managers who have become too comfortable and are the real danger to the company’s profits. And it’s comments like that one that should convince all their employees to start looking for work elsewhere. No matter how good or valuable you think you are to this employer, you really aren’t in the slightest. Seek a company that genuinely respects your skills and talents, appreciates your work and value, and cares enough to listen to your concerns. Don’t stick around with an ignorant wish upon a star hope that things will magically change or your situation will improve. All you are doing is wasting the time that you could be spending at an employer who respects you.

Sounds like something the customer service manager in Michigan whose name starts with a B would say!

I don't know where this warped philosophy originated, but it's completely unwarranted, unprofessional, and disrespectful. It takes many years to learn how the bank operates. Replacement at what cost to lost operational efficiency? These kinds of comments foster a culture of fear and demoralization. Who wants to work in a hostile work environment where your manager is constantly threatening to replace you? And why isn't senior leadership taking positive action to stop these comments and reinforce goodwill towards employees? All it would take is for the CEO to issue a stern directive that these kind of threats will no longer be tolerated.

If memory serves me correctly, there was a plane crash about 30 years ago and the top two execs (Prez and COO) at a major fast food restaurant, In-N-Out I think, died in that accident. Today, the company is doing better than ever. Just goes to show that everyone is replaceable. Even in the executive ranks. Maybe this manager didn’t use the right words and he/she came across as being unappreciative and disrespectful, but there is truth to those words.

Yeah but they are replacing the great talent that’s walking with sh-t. Sorry but it’s true. This bank is so toxic and so negative and I’m telling you, in a matter of time it’s going to bite them where it hurts.

In a call I heard the manager say the leavers are lower level so isnt that bad. I had to laugh because when questioned what he means by lower level it was the level of the person who asked lol. Shameless

That is true. Everyone is replaceable. Just not at the same level of operational efficency, ability, or cost. Bad management is easier to replace than best talent.
