Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Hans

Hans came in in 2017, propped up this 5g house of cards, created fanfare which was smoke and mirrors, built key global, high powered contacts (blackrock and world economic forum) for himself, made $100m off the backs of shareholders and employees and will be gone in 1 year and leave us all holding the bag.
T mobile is eating our lunch, taking our market share and vz is on the defense stumbling backwards and doing nothing to protect the revenue but increasing prices.

There were options for manpower out of footprint, but no gumption or backbone to do it. Interestingly, Asurion does that now. Then again, almost everyone there has come from here.

Onefiber probably only makes sense in footprint. Contracted manpower outside of footprint is probably more expensive than leasing fiber from other carriers.

One Fiber sought to run new state of the art fiber both in and out of footprint to reduce the costs of using 3rd party lines for transport and to pick up opportunistic customers along the way. Now that has mostly been ki---d and senior execs are still wondering how to reduce the number of negative margin circuits and increase incremental revenue. This was a major league miss for the company.

Picking Hans and 5G over OF was the definite tip-off that neither the Board of Directors nor Executive Management had any real understanding about the program or the US telecom market. Promote foolish people and ideas and you will get foolish outcomes and results.

Vz had invested billions into the one fiber project and it was promising for vz to get away from the expensive 3rd party access providers.
Why did Hans cancel it?
Did he think that the US is moving completely away from fiber based on what Europe is doing with 5g?
This is the challenge when you hire someone from another country. They don’t understand the landscape in the US.

Hans ripped off the 8 Currencies of 5G idea from the European Union. This is not something that he came up with. There is a paper out there in Verizon land showing this but that they keep trying to hid.

He was pushed out of his old job because he was done with 4G deployment, and couldn't do anything else. Here he is for round 2, but 5G is not going as expected. Europe and US are different, can't expect the same success.
