Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Don't fall for it

People who think all O&G companies are the same are either willfully ignorant or tasked with making sure employees don't expect better. They either never worked anywhere but XOM and have no idea what they're talking about or they are part of XOM management or HR.

All O&G companies are not the same. Other companies are not ideal but they're certainly better than "I'll fire employees using PIPs to save on severance" XOM. Don't fall for their propaganda.

Why limit yourself to O&G? If you're looking for the most conservative companies out there, the sure O&G may be for you

During my 35 years in the oil field I worked for 8 different O&G companies. The last 15 years was for EM, then I retired. Every company that I worked for had good and bad parts. Those that don’t feel like they fit at EM need to keep looking until they find a good fit.

“People who think all O&G companies are the same are either willfully ignorant or tasked with making sure employees don't expect better.”

The differences between the large O&G companies are so small that they’re practically negligible. They all have the same business model and the same bottom line. There’s no functional difference between Exxon, Chevron, BP, etc., unless you happen to be one of the shareholders.

Call it what you will. If you’re upset about what they call a layoff etc then you e bigger problems. Exxon is not the only company who reviews staff numbers and cuts or hires depending on what day of the week it is.

And yet chevron Career path metrology is different to Exxon. Honeywell doesn’t even have career paths mapped out. Chevron make you apply for each new job/assignment. Shell is a bit of both. Every company is different with good and bad bits. However, Exxon employees seem to whine more than most.

Can Exxon employees complain about more? I’m sure if you tried you could find more things to complain about. The coffee? The weather?

Anyone who thinks shell or bp or any of the small oil companies don’t lay off people - regardless of how they do it - has their head in the sand.

Yeah I was complaining to my sis whose best friend works in Chevron, and she said her friend said they are only experiencing normal attrition and there’s none of these fake layoffs. In my country many XOM folks have left to join CVX
