Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Such a cold and miserable environment

I've been here for less than two months and I already can't take it anymore. How in the world do the rest of you put up with this? I don't care how it will look on my resume, I've already started looking for a new job. I'll take a pay cut, I don't care. I just want to get out of here before it affects my mental health.

@6rwn+1gOWMehL Yes, most all of these of these issues are facets of Stockholm’s Syndrome. Stockholm’s Syndrome sounds bizarre and extreme, but it is a coping mechanism and there definitely is quite a bit of that going on here.

Sadly for some alcohol and even hard dr-gs are used to numb the reality of the he-l that this place is. Its a bad scene. The problems there are unfixable just go somewhere else and don't look back.

No free water in some Pittsburgh buildings. We had to pitch in for our own polar water cause the tap water was through old lead pipes. Only place that I’ve ever worked where there was no free coffee, not to mention no free water. Epic battles between employees that wanted their Coffee but didn’t want to pay for polar water.

Gives new meaning to collaboration around the water cooler. You’d hear some insane ideas that would only appeal to Sr Mgt and sure enough it came from a Lead Head too cheap pay up for clean water.

@1zvk+1gOWMehL You get bagels? In Pittsburgh they took away coffee many years ago. We're lucky we get free water.

I come in daily thinking about my paycheck and my bills. That is how I do it.

There is a certain solace in deadening yourself to it, trying not to care and forcing yourself to just salute and goose step, particularly if you are new.. But if you really do care it will eat away at you. Create action steps to find another job and execute them. You’ll be much better for it.

Agree with prior post....
You truly go through all the stages of grief here - grief at the loss of opportunities missed.

  1. Denial - it can't be all bad. I can make an impact. I can change processes for the better.
  2. Anger - I've offered many suggestions to reduce administration and streamline tasks, but they just won't put them into practice. This place is broken. aaaargh!
  3. Bargaining - maybe I'll just temper my expectations.
  4. Depression - nothing here will ever change for the better and now I'm part of the environment that I fought so hard to improve.
  5. Acceptance - meh, pay is subpar so my performance reflects that and it's all good now. Clock in, clock out.
