Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Only the desperate still work at Verizon

There isn't much to say about Verizon. It has terrible management, provides little to no reward for good work, offers generally terrible pay, and has zero respect for employees. Outside of the union employees, only the desperate who have no other options stay here.

There definately is no reward for good work. Barely do enough and you get just a bit less than if you worked twice as many hours ki----g yourself for the company.
Work nights and weekends for a few months and your boss might say you can leave early one day and not use your time. Sure I guess it is a nice gesture but how about help so it doesnt happen every other month or not doing ridiculous internal busy work ehich puts off real work and makes it into an emergency.

Was with company 20+ years, took VSP when offered. Looking back you do see some things in a better light but still glad I made the move. Salary was higher than I would have gotten elsewhere. The 20% target bonus is something you won't find in many other places. Had more vacation time than I knew what to do with. Medical coverage was good & company did pay good % of premiums. When it came time to leave, company was generous with VSP, even RIFs seemed pretty good, and setting folks up with career planning company on exit was nice. Part that wore on me, endless yearly RIFs, lack of backfills but expecting same amount of work done. Folks feared being cut so they picked up more work. In company's eyes, they could continue cutting with little/no effect. Whole mgmt structure was who you knew not what you knew.

Original OP :"only the desperate still work at Verizon"
2022 Translation with Biden at the helm :"only the fortunate have guaranteed union jobs until 2023, and most likely even longer".

New hires dont get pensons anymore you say? Welcome to the last 15+ years.
Cell phone discount to make it competitive with using another carrier instead.
Tuition reimbursement is pretty minimal though better than nothing.
Vacation time depending on what group that you may be able to take.
Medical benefits better than minimal or sikver plans but cutting back on covered things every year. Doesnt matter how low the deductable is or out of pocket is when they just stop covering things. Next year on my spouses plna which will cover it and is cheaper.

Verizon is a really big company. It is suprising just how different the experiences are from all across it when we are supposed to be the same place.

It’s not so bad, it’s better than working for a small company where one person micromanagers every thing sucks the life out of you. Management gets 401k match up to 6%, free tuition assistance (I got a MS recently all paid by VZ). Top health benefits, better than most employers. After a few years, you get 4+ weeks of paid vacation. FiOS, Cell plan discounts etc… New hires don’t get a pension anymore, same for union new hires. Very few companies offer pensions these days.

People don’t appreciate things until they are gone.

Work 30 to 40 years and maybe you will get some pension and medical crumbs if you make it that far. Now that is desperation....

Yes. The anti-union rambling post by sjq was so truthful and honest that it has since been deleted. 🤡

They also trigger very easily when faced with the truth as evidenced by the post below.

Pay may be bad in many but not all areas. Im overpaid compared to any posted job ive seen in over a decade outside. Ive applied and been interviewed but the pay cut is too much and at this point I only have a few years. I might as well stay here another year and get paid more than Id get paid for a few years somewhere else. Even though Id love a RIF and would be happy to just be fired somehow it still finds a way to stress me out and haunt my every moment at night and on weekends.

This is all true. Never before has such a basket of cash flow producing assets been as mismanaged and underdeployed as now. This may also be way Berkshire sold off. Hans will soon be gone and a new chief and generals not long after. Hopefully the next crew will be interested in running a telecommunications company and not America's Got Talent. This stock has always been about the cash flow and dividend and always will be.
