Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Contractors should avoid XOM

If you were treated badly as an employee, why even come back as contractor at a fraction of the price? It was as suggested that I should back as consultant. Not sure I want to come back to this toxic environment.

Soon, the ratio of contractors to employees will be much higher with TMTS. Highly paid contractors are still cheaper than paying employee benefits.

Contractor role is best if you're not on a management track, unsponsored, older or both. All the little weenies will be kissing your @zz for the work you do tongue in their reports as if they've done something. Management will treat you like dirt, but, cashing those checks is sweet revenge.

I've experienced both perspectives at ExxonMobil. I preferred the contractor role, even while being be treated as second class. The high rate of pay helped to soothe my wounded pride.

You think contractors get paid less than employees?

I think contractors now are more respected than employees, and as many have said, they also aren't subject to the ranking debacle. I don't see any benefit anymore to employee status in the company... Unless you're top quintile of course.

Contractor is role to have at EM. No PDS drama and you hold much authority over a specific area since EM staff are untrained and just punching tickets. Money is better as well.

As an estate before, contractor do not share knowledge or train EM personnel. At the end you will lose. Do not fall in their game, when they need something, you will be treated kindly and respectfully, but if they don't you will treat unfairly. Like you are second class citizen.

Who said it would be at a fraction.

Plus, would it not be nice to do actual work vs all the employee overhead stuff?
