Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Looming recession

I'm a little worried about the potential recession ahead of us. How will it affect the cuts at T?

Cuts are coming. McElfresh said he will have to pay frontline employees more so as to not disrupt customer service and we'll have to recover those cost elsewhere in the business and headcount cuts is the easiest

With the IRS Minimum Present Value Segment Rates rising as they are, causing lump sums to fall, I'd be surprised if there are any significant cuts.
Since we are now at mid-year, there is no reason to offer 6 months severance for management or what ever the rate is for bargained for employees.

Pretty sure, Stankey will allow those people to leave voluntarily until EOY. After NY 2023, I'd expect the large cuts to resume and be aggressive. Seems to make financial sense to me

AT&T… we have the meat!

The course for T has been set…awful margins, industry leading debt and no growth. Asking if the recession will have an impact on T is like asking if a dripping faucet would have sunk the Titanic…..it’s simply not relevant. The only question really is how long can T hide poor performance.

I wouldn't necessarily be worried about a recession impacting AT&T layoffs. They will do it either way. I would be concerned with an economy in recession impacting being able to find other employment.

Yes, there will be cuts as soon as other companies start laying people off. T is follower, not s leader.

AT&T will be fine. Great place to be. Recession won't affect AT&T much. Gotta have phone service and internet service.

You should be worried because in the new simpler AT&T it is much harder to hide poor financial performance. If user growth for mobility and home and enterprise growth for fiber do not meet goals, then we’ll need to lose people to make our numbers. Fortunately we do have a better (but not good) debt situation. The worst possible outcome is some new M&A venture. If that happens it will signal bad news. We like to complain about bad decisions but consider todays media and tech failures from ad revenue dependency. We shed Xandr and Wzm which had the same business model. We came out ahead

A recession will result in layoffs. In the past I would agree with the other op that T would be safe. Today, not so much. We are debt heavy, competition is at an all-time high and we are not the same company we once were.

I'm sure Stinky will give himself a big raise, so don't worry about him.

We've been here before, several times. No need to worry, T is the safest place to be during a recession. I don't foresee any drastic changes in the employment numbers at T. They will mandate cutbacks of office supplies and limit travel to essential, but that's about it.

you should be worried, Mr. Stankey comments this week show he is already positioning that AT&T will have to resize to meet the pressures. As the market tanks AT&T will find it has less capital to invest which means reductions across the board. I don't have inside knowledge but my gut tells me 4Q may be ugly :(
