IT has gotten smashed over the years for sure. Point being that ICs should try $50-100. I would think it would be approved as upper layer approval is not required for that. I wouldn't even do $50. Managers should try to do everything with meaning. You may not be able to give everyone something at times but make it meaningful when you do. Too many lower GR/new managers that really don't get what it means to be in the trenches and then work your way up. Some that make that transition are actually great managers. Others, not so much.

I wasn't sure at what level the CR budget was. I know that my manager would occasionally say that CR budget was exhausted for the quarter, or that it wasn't being used and people should submit more CRs.

Like you, I agree that $25 was nothing. It wasn't really meaningful unless it was for $100 or more.

I'm not sure what you meant by "I suspect you are in the center or software..."

I was an IT admin in Eng IT and worked many support cases. Most of my CRs came from users I assisted if they felt I'd gone above and beyond, which is why they were mostly $25. Sometimes my manager would put me in for $100 or $250 for dealing w/ big issues that had a lot of visibility. I also helped a Director who was new to using a Mac and spent an hour on Webex with them getting their email imported from the local PST folders from a PC into the email client on their Mac and they put me in for $250 when they didn't have to do jack sh-t for me.

The CRs do NOT come out of the managers budget. It is at a Sr director + level. I wouldn't approved a CR for $25 anyways. I would send it back and say submit it for $100. At least give enough to go get a decent dinner with the wife or husband (Yes I said it). The budget does run out too very easily. If you are only getting $25 then I suspect you are in the center or software. If that's the case it's twice what most should be getting from those two orgs (there are a couple that do deserve and are capable of more, probably 5 people in both of those orgs combined. Not many though. When you have the field putting that staffing must be with an onshore, regional expert consultant it means "no center clowns".

Pretty sure I got like four grand cross a few years. Maybe you’re just not contributing enough to get recognized.

Nice. Most of my CRs were chump change ($25) every quarter or so, so they didn't add up to much. Occasionally I'd get a nice $250 CR once or twice a year. When I last totaled up my CR totals, I was surprised how much the $25 added up to over the 3-5 yrs I was an employee after the CR program started. I think my total was about $3500 all told.

Since the CR rewards come out of the manager's bucket of the person giving the CR, unless you're doing great stuff for some other team(s), you basically just end up using your own manager's CR budget to give $25 to each person on the team and vice versa until his quarterly CR budget is exhausted.

Between '14-'16, under this one manger, we would round robin making $25 CR nominations for someone on the team for BS reasons and that person, in turn, would have to nominate someone else. We'd get about 1-2 $25 CRs each quarter before the budget would be exhausted, but the manager felt it was better to spend the money and not let it go to waste.

I wish the opposite of CR was allowed at Cisco.

CR is like high school or better known as the circle j3rk, its all about giving out the CR, then at one moment you get taken into the loop of receiving the CR. Been there, validated the theory, it works . Then back to my own self again as I have no intention of pretending to be an influencer to get more likes.
My point of view is my own, that of a perhaps cynic , sober and sceptic person (ergo all of the characteristics not appreciated in the above described circle)

Mate, you have much to learn....a recent chairman's club winner nominated his own boss for connect recog and openly praised how great he is, then the boss self approved his own connect recog.

Oh come on, that's just plain whining. I recognize people very often. If you're not receiving the attention you think you deserve, take it up to your boss.

Diparati is a Software Engineer for Cisco Collaboration and she shares how receiving Connected Recognition from her manager inspired her to try creating Mendala and Zentangle art!

  • EARTh without ART is just Eh!

Earth without art is just eh! is something I absolutely believe in and is even my life’s mantra! And while some may know I now create Mandala and Zentangle art – that wasn’t always the case. And, Cisco is how I became involved in this beautiful artform.

Diparati creating Mandala and Zentangle art next to a stack of books.

What? A tech company inspired one of its employees to pursue art? You bet! And here’s the story of how that happened.

I was born and brought up in Kolkata, a city in India which is also known as the City of Joy. Growing up, I realized I was more of an introvert. It took time for me to open up to people, talk to new people and in general, express myself. I completed school, got into college, completed college – all the while being a wallflower – a wallflower who was good in academics, but not many people knew who she was beyond that.
