I've heard that the bank does counteroffer if you approach your manager with an offer from a competitor, is this true?

Did not receive a counter offer when I left. Was asked to do a survey but I declined. Top performing employee, no issues with management/coworkers, etc. Band 5.
It works in very limited situations, but more often than not the person seeking the counter ends up burning a bridge and the financial sector is smaller than one may think.
If you receive an offer that you are happy with, just go.
I have heard of the counter offer working. But your LOB HR partner will want to see your counter offer in writing and that's if your leadership team is willing to entertain a counter offer at all. This was about 10 years ago so times may have changed.
i've seen this play out years ago. the person did stay for a couple of more years, and then they eventually left.
@wdc+1gUxt6er exactly why stay. All a counteroffer tells you is they were purposefully underpaying you this entire time.
Be darn sure you actually want the other job before trying this, in case no counter is forthcoming because your manager's hands are tied. (if your manager is not super senior, very doubtful they can do anything.)
If you are dissatisfied with your comp, best to just take the increased $$ and move on.
It's not like looking outside makes you more appealing here.
Depends if they want to keep you... and if it's not beyond what they can match/beat. Better question is, why stay?
