Oprah

Did anyone feel like Oprah spent most of the time talking about herself and when not talking about herself, basically just kept talking without actually saying anything?

I watched about 2 minutes of the Oprah thing as I was busy doing real work most of that time. My only takeaway was me asking myself “Are we a tech company or what”? Don’t actually answer that question because we probably don’t want to hear the answer. Aren’t our engineers supposed to be the bedrock of a tech company? Personally I could give a cr-p about what Oprah had to say and from what I’ve heard I didn’t miss much at all.

ELT stands for Elite group. They are 50K high up in the sky, they have no clue the real problems in Cisco. Actually they don't even care about the long term future of Cisco. They just enjoy the fat paycheck for another few years then retired. The problem Cisco is facing is harsh that it thought. The same problem Nokia and Lucent encountered in the past, there will be a major paradigm shift in networking area, not favoring Cisco.

Last few events organised by our HR team, is a clear indication that the ELT and the Senior management has no clue on the ground reality of employees. I think they all are in their own celebrity /rich people's world. They may face different problems in their life, which may not be the same for the large section of the employees in Cisco. With my limited experience - most employees below G11 are struggling to meet their ends meet with recent inflection rate/bad pay from Cisco. I doubt an advice from Oprah may help them to solve their problems. It is difficult for the ELT to understand an ordinary middle-class employee's problem. Because most of the ELTs might have not faced the same level of financial crunch like we do in a daily life. For them a statement from Orpha make huge relief from the decision to choose between Guccie vs Prada :-)

Biggest crock of garbage on the planet. I'm shocked Fran wasn't sitting in that clowns lap. All of the little brown nosey flakes putting the "I love you oprah" and "you have the best insight" - you folks are total fools drinking the kool-aid. If there was a cliff you mo--ns would follow right off. Wait until you don't get a raise, stock, full bonus, etc. Oh, everyone appreciates the bonus cut for 2023 because of you whining pi---s. Also, cutting the year of service multiplier for GR12s, especially the 20+ year vets that put in more to get this company going than any of you under 10 years and the ELT would ever be capable of. Again, thank you said no one ever that matters.

If she can plagiarize bits into completely incoherent and incorrect white papers she’ll have a lifelong career there as a Principal Software Engineer.

Maybe you can bring back Johnny and his 100 first priorities and his statement that he’ll always have unrealistic expectations. People used to love that.

Why would you even bother watching that garbage?

Some people just enjoy watching Oprah. She wouldn't be rich and famous if people didn't like watching her and listening to her drone on and on.

And I'm sure they spent as much on her, and probably a lot more, as they did getting Jerry Seinfeld to speak at some Cisco anniversary event. He did some 5 min comic stand-up routine and didn't say sh-t about Cisco. And he travelled to Cisco so that all the people lucky enough to win the lottery ticket drawing to sit in the conf room where they televised the all-hands from could see him in person. Oprah just sat at home like she's been doing all pandemic long.

Must be nice to be in a position to have your company pay for you to get to travel to Oprah's house and sit with her for 45 min while you touted how great Teamspace is to Oprah, who had no idea what you were talking about, saying BS that she loved telling her boss each week about what she did that she loved and what she loathed, and how it's a chance for manager's to help people find ways to not loath their job any more.

I think I'm going to start putting in my Teamspace loathes section how much I loath doing Teamspace. :-)

In case you have not noticed it, talking without saying (much) is about 80 percent of my meetings I attend.
It should be the new mantra

What cost more, Oprah’s speaking fee or the payroll spent for people to watch her?

Exactly why the ELT is so in love with her.
