Could be that you're the one standout (for all the wrong reasons) on an otherwise high-performing team. Some managers have a hard time dealing with that, and hope that a little poking and prodding might help motivate you. What you're perceiving as micromanagement is their misguided attempt to get you to perform or 'care' at the same level as the others. But I've learned, after trying this with someone else once... for a couple years, that it just doesn't work with your personality type... where it would work with high performers. (You just rarely ever have to take this approach with them, since they drive themselves to keep up.)
Bottom line is that you are never going to change, and neither is your manager, unfortunately. You're just incompatible with each other in this regard.
