Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Who’s left?

Stankey oversaw Comm and Entertainment (DTV and WM). Both groups had their own CEO (McElfresh and Kilar). Entertainment is now gone so do we need both Stankey and McElfresh to oversee the same business? Sure Latin America, Legal, HR, D&I, and other centralized corporate orgs are under him, but they all now work in conjunction with McElfresh so what’s the structure look like going forward? Or better yet, does McElfresh shakeup his DR team to bring in new leadership from respectable proven companies? If this huge capital investment in Fiber and 5G still sees us treading water with new mounting debt, I can’t imagine this will be good for anyone. I just hope WBD’s new approach and combined assets can flourish in the growing streaming/content world and to cover the losses we’ve seen in T stock the past 3-4 years.

Regarding the Annual Meeting and the Board’s proposals, I hope the big houses (Blackrock and Vanguard) and all shareholders vote based on performance and needs going forward so we can turnover this ridiculous Board and their own financially motivated recommendations. If you haven’t read those, you need to. Drain that swamp.

There used to be 4 levels between me and Stankey. Now there are 7. I still smell his stink just as strong. Chief of Staff jobs are Gofers and glorified secretaries

Funny ... I seem to recall that the last mass layoffs in late 2020 were justified by the pathological lying bag of pus at the top as being needed to remove layers. With the unsurprising result that no layers were removed, though the L1 & L2 ranks were shrunk.

Even the new shakeup/loss of orgs won't mean any decrease in the number of pointless VPs, SVPs, EVPs, or C-suite types. Their jobs are precious. Everyone else's ... not so much.

AT&T has a dysfunctional and redundant reporting structure. Recounting, reviewing minutiae details while the main objectives are missed!!

Before SBC came along, T had the company management streamlined to an acceptable level, an overdue departure from the old Bell system way of conducting business. Then came SBC, an RBOC, (Regional Bell Operating Company) that became big enough to purchase AT&T. What happened after that is T went right back to the old Bell system. Layer after layer of unnecessary management on the payroll for appearance sake only. Personnel that T could have easily done without, but that was the Bell system mentality back in the day, a virtual monopoly in the telephone business. They hired anybody, family, friends, friends of friends! Now, T needs to get away from that business model and get this company streamlined once again or change will be slow and painful!

The company needs to shrink the bloated levels in each org. We need no more than 4 levels If that does not happy then it will be clear the company isn’t serious about turning the ship around.

@OP, DTV is not gone from the ATT portfolio and still needs to be resolved.

The big change will correct all the inflated titles. There will only be one CEO....
