Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Does everyone hate RTO as much as me?

Went in a couple days last week and couldn’t believe how much I hated it. The commute was exhausting, the office is filthy and depressing and everyone seems utterly miserable having been forced against their will back to this place. I’ve heard rumors that RTO has been a colossal failure across the board and that WF is having difficulty backfilling positions as employees are resigning at breakneck speed. Does anyone with any inside knowledge know if management is beginning to reconsider their stance? Or at least provide more flexibility? In the meantime, I’m going to continue the search for remote roles.

You know working anywhere would be nice but the biggest issue is management is always MIA ! Busy with meetings about meetings or off with the mistress!!!

As many have predicted that Charles in Charge will be out by the end of 22, think about this. He may just inject a poison pill to the employees in the form of 5 day RTO before he gently and smugly closes the door behind him with a little wink to BD and blows us all a big kiss. It's the kind of thing that has been done before. It uses politics, that's all.

The only difference that I have noticed is that some are a bit more stressed out due to hanging issues that have gone unresolved. This is where supervision and management can assist.

I applied for an internal position and was told its a "lateral" so I get no bump in salary and they want me to switch locations in the city I am located which is about an hour away vs. literally 5 minutes away.

Tell me again they support internal employees. If I were making the same money external I would be getting a raise which would offset the longer commute at least. Luckily my job skill is in demand - time to leave the stagecoach. I can always come back in 6 months and get a big raise once I loose those internal cooties!

Only at Wells would people downvote an industry leader who had a hand in creating the key technologies that we all depend upon and take for granted.

I just did. Hundreds of thousands of people worldwide use my work every day and will for decades. My skillset has always been cutting edge and is to this day.

$354k = RTO
$225k = WFH

@pui+1gdFORUU - don’t understand all the downvotes. Guess lots of old people on this site. Who knew? Anyways, couldn’t agree more with you. In my department the senior leadership is all 55+. Some are cool but the vast majority just can’t relate to the rest of us. They are stuck in their ways with their “butts in seats” mentality. I tell all my friends to avoid this company like the plague. There a far better opportunities in tech, consulting, or even insurance. They pay is usually better and the WLB blows this place away. Seriously guys—if a recruiter calls you about a job here RUN, don’t walk!!!

@vdj+1gdFORUU - sorry but I have to interject. What is destroying this company is a lack of real leadership, scandals, outsourcing, and far too many legacy employees with their heads stuck in the sand doing the bare minimum while cashing their paycheck and hoping for a package. Until these issues are resolved this company will continue to limp along.

@pui+1gdFORUU ; just off yourself. I am serious. Your level of immaturity and self centered narcissistic view are what is destroying this company.

The sooner you are no longer living the better the world will be.

Total of 8 people on my floor. Entire team in other states. Seems to make no sense to be back in office. Lack of an Assigned desk surrounded by boxes and little to no food options around my office (all shut down during COVID) makes it a very unwelcome environment.

In my 40 years in banking technology I only worked remote in evenings and weekends. From my perspective anyone complaining about any hybrid mode whatsoever doesn’t have a clue.

Would love to hear from anyone with contacts in management or HR if hybrid is here to stay. I’ve heard both sides—that they plan a full 5 day RTO sometime in late ‘‘22 or early ‘23. But also heard from a friend in HR that there are no plans at the moment to do so as attrition is way beyond what they anticipated and the bank is having trouble backfilling as the majority of job seekers will only consider remote.

MEEEEE! And I gave notice yesterday. It took me about 8 weeks to find a role that pays me more guaranteed money and is completely remote! Bonus - I start with just as much PTO as I have here. It does make me sad to be forced to leave a company I was at for closing in on 15 years, especially given that I like who I work with. I am not the first on our team to quit because of it and our manager is ensuring she lets escalates our reasoning as far as she can go, not that it will do much good.

Headcount will never actually go down. For every person they lay off in the US they hire 1-3 overseas.

Downsizing will continue until only execs work in the US.

What is our current head count?

There won't be any reconsideration until our headcount is below 200k, at least. Maybe not even then.

@tpq
I presume it is either going to be sent to a vendor or supported by a much smaller crew remotely, but that’s just a guess.

How does it put them out of a job? Wouldn’t they still support that?

Yes. No one wants to be here. No one wants to do any work of any kind in office, so processes are failing all over. Backlogs of work are stacking up in some groups and employees are leaving my department in droves. Half of them aren’t even making it through the training because the trainer doesn’t care to use up to date materials and they don’t worry if anyone has access or not. Today we all got prompted to install some Horizon tool which I was told by tech is the new virtual thing that puts them out of a job, which they are obviously not fond of. Our printer has been broken for over a week, janitorial staff is basically MIA, and no one is collaborating…only passing enough time each day so they can go home.

I commuted an hour each way just to sit in a cramped, dirty desk, put my earbuds in to tune out everyone out and all the unnecessary distractions and went home. Was the most stressful and least productive day I had in 2 years. Well, not completely unproductive, I did update my resume and did a bunch of research on companies offering remote roles. And yes, I did all of it on my work computer. I couldn’t care less if they know. Severance would be like a summer vacation.
