Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

What a joke

Remember the time when higher-than-expected quarterly profits meant bonuses for all employees, not just those on top? I'm old enough to remember that. That's when all of us gave our 110% every single day. I can't blame younger generations for slacking off when they're not given any incentive to do better. Why work hard when that work is not properly rewarded?

@OP must be heritage Mobil or a troll, because Exxon and ExxonMobil have NEVER given bonuses to rank and file employees. You need to be Executive level to get bonuses. Everyone else is just base salary (including those who receive RSU’s).

That never happened-at least in my 33 years with the company. I do remember mid-cycle pay adjustments because we were no longer competitive, but that only happened once or twice.

DW gets millions just because price of oil increases stock price. DW took zero action to earn a penny.
DW leads hiring binge of 5000 employees in 2018-2019 and gets bonuses.
DW leads layoff that he lied about in 2020 and gets bonuses.
DW personally insists on weaponized PIP causing astronomical attrition and gets bonuses.
DW NSI based on all available measures of performance.

Yep. Nowadays, you give 120% while praying to save your own a-s by genuine efforts good EM, you get PIP'd by made-up excuses given by EM. Time has changed long ago. Shareholders' interest first, folks.

For me it wasn’t that the lack of rewards, it was lack of trust that was apparent from the tiny scope you’d get as a new hire (ex: stop wasting new hire time with the 1000th office safety initiative that has zero impact and give them an actual problem to solve). I lasted 4 years at EM before I left for a role that was more in line with my career goals. A couple job hops later and now I’m at a tech company where I’m being given interesting, complex problems that I get full autonomy to solve. Imagine that! As someone who is very career motivated, I’m also very aware of how I stack up compared to my peers and why. It’s very empowering and inspires loyalty since I feel that I’m being supported to meet my personal goals. A 180 from the forced ranking at EM where they would give you some BS reason for your rating.

Millennials/gen z aren’t lazy, we simply will not choose to stay in a corporate environment that doesn’t serve our development or career goals. And if we stay we’ll put minimal effort in for as long as we can.

No, I didn't work for Mobil pre-'99.
Most employees of Exxon had no bonuses since the '70s.
Only higher management, through stock dribbles.

So, no, I don't remember that.
Unlikely you do.

There's never been a time when everyone got a bonus in the 25 years I've been here.

Yeah might as well put the bare minimum in to scrape through PDS, not going to be rewarded for anything more

The CEO received a 51% raise and $3.1M cash bonus, while raises were less than the rate of inflation for everyone else. Now that’s a joke!

The Executives all are getting bonuses and received bonuses during the downturn, so see no reason to change.

Maybe attrition will get so bad that it affects their bonuses.
