$45B Fantasy?

Are you buying this? Stock price not so optimistic..

Ford is betting big on connected vehicle services after recruiting top talent from a number of tech giants and rolling out its Blue Oval Intelligence and Lincoln Intelligence connected vehicle platforms. The Blue Oval expects to have 32 million over-the-air capable vehicles on the road by 2028 while generating significant income from connected vehicle services – as much as $20 billion annually by 2030 – while also reducing warranty costs using these same updates. Additionally, the automaker expects to generate an additional $45 billion in annual revenue from its new Ford Pro commercial business by 2025, according to Industry Week.

This interesting tidbit comes to us from Ford’s CFO, John Lawler, who recently spoke at the Bank of America Securities 2022 Global Automotive Summit. There, Lawler revealed that Ford’s focus on connected vehicles in the commercial world would help it not only generate significant additional revenue in that segment moving forward – going from $27 billion in 2019 to an estimated $45 billion in 2030 – but will also help extend the length of its relationship with fleet customers.

“If somebody would have said to me five years ago, ‘how is the last 10 years of your career going to work out?’ Well, it’s going to be capital-intensive, margins are going to be difficult, those who have the freshest lineup are going to have an advantage for a period of time and we’re going to continue to battle it out,” Lawler said. “That’s completely changed now with these connected platforms, services, and experiences. Ford Pro is going to be the area where we see that first.”

This growth seems to validate Ford’s decision to split its business into multiple entities, each focusing on a different part of its business moving forward. But as Lawler noted, that process won’t be without challenges. “Are there going to be some pockets of tension, etcetera? Yeah, but we need to work through that,” he said. “That’s only natural. It’s a big change for the company.”

I like to see the data for which this number was developed! I don't doubt there is some revenue, but I don't think it will be this high. Second why pay for this warranty plan? given the price of these vehicles that should be part of the purchase.
I bet some other OEM will just add that as part of doing business and there is no charge.

This a remake of the Fantasy Island TV series that debuted in 1977?
With Jim Farley as Mr. Roarke and Bill Ford as Tattoo.

At a luxurious but remote tropical island resort, the enigmatic Mr. Roarke somehow makes the secret car dreams of his well-heeled guests come true, although twists of fate often turn those dreams into nightmares. He is assisted by Tattoo, a little person who could be trusted to sing out, "Da car! Da car!" as each group of guests arrived. As a sort of anthology series, the show featured new guest stars each week, and many big names of the era made a trip onto "Fantasy Island."

The data that Ford as an OEM can collect and flow has increased value over other data sources. The quotes cited from Lawler above and other information provided by Doug Field (look for it yourselves) outline how our data centers will profit the company going forward.

The strategy is right out in the open, you are not seeking it or just not understanding it.

I sure wish, for once, Ford executives would speak of SOMETHING WE ACCOMPLISHED, not stuff we will do by 2030.

And if subscription revenue was really $27 billion in 2019, expected to grow to $45 billion by 2030, the e team just needs to find another $100 billion in revenue to match the Blue team’s 2019 revenue achievement. NOT HAPPENING.

GO BLUE!

IDK there are already apps that fleet owners use to track and coordinate their fleet, what value add would Ford have? Most of the apps run on a tablet or phone which is so much better than running only in the vehicle. I just can’t see a company like amazon, that actually knows how to build apps saying, sure lets rely on a kludgy Ford app.

So Ford thinks customers will pay a monthly subscription for these connected vehicles or who are they going to sell the customers’ data to? Either way this will never work. Customers aren’t going to pay a monthly subscription. Who is going to buy this data? The feds? Ha. No one. Tesla doesn’t charge a monthly fee. We’ve had a Model S and 3 Model X’s. I left Ford in 2004. Never would go back.
