Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Why So Low Key, So Nonchalant, No Passion, No Motivation?

Here at Cisco, why are people so low key, so nonchalant, no passion for work, no motivation for work?

It's like people have no emotion, no personality... Just so quiet...
People don't really work...

Never seen those people at work. Sales, CX. etc. All are like that... Why?

The money train ended when they switched to RSUs in 2000s. In early 2000s, they handed out options very generously. Glad to have been around for that time. We busted our behinds in early 2000s but it paid off.

No way I would work at that level now without the pre-RSU options.

Simon Sinek has something to say about an environment like this.

Arbitrary goal setting. Obscene workloads that don't allow a worker to get below surface level.

When your goals are set halfway through the period of time in which your goals are measured, you figure it out. Read that again...that's right.... you have a 6 month goal, but you don't get your comp plan / goal sheet until the 3 month mark. It doesn't matter. Goals are set by Finance to meet the needs of Finance -- the he-l with motivation or input from 'the masses'.

It is almost like leadership is wanting this thing to crash and burn.

I'm one of those people. I started off high energy, but have virtually nothing left now after several years here. It's sad and came from not really being rewarded differently whether I was doing great work or mediocre work

"Low morale, plain and simple."

The key is to hire and retain employees with no standards. Maybe from abusive families or recently divorced?

Morale eventually improves.

If I work 60hrs/week or just 4hrs/week, I still get paid the same. Why work those extra 56 hours?

What's the motivation? Survival of the next quarter's layoff? Continue making less than the new hires?
