Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

$20/hr increase has me worried...

I seem to feel a pattern happening. When something too good to be true comes around the corner with Verizon than not to much further down the road people start losing their jobs. I am really hoping that the company is true about doing this for retention and not as a smoke screen to the next steps in its plan. Lots of whispers of major changes coming down the pike where many might be excited... I am just waiting for the hammer to drop.

They made the move months after TMo and ATT did and to a lower rate from what ive read. Guess it is at least some effort to slow people from leaving.

I agree that Managers should receive substantial salary increases and noone else. Outstanding Management is the only reason the company stays exceptional.

Thats only for anyone not getting paid that amount now plus bilingual get an additional $1.50 not to mention sups managers they'll get a raise but what about your tenured employees they aren't getting a raise because they might already be getting paid a few cents or a dollar extra above that I started off at $15 an hour I been with the company for 8 years and I now get paid $22 how is this fair its like their entire sales system now only new customers get the best deals they never take care of those 5 year plus customers 15 years I guess all your hard work and dedication doesn't matter new hires are getting better treatment than the vets its the smarter thing to do focus on your current employees invest in us we have the experience we provide high leading numbers year after year for what we are expected to do more & more for the same pay new hires are under sales customer service rep that's exactly what I do now but I won't get paid commissions for sales ya see Verizon doesn't care

$20 per hour translates to $40 grand a year plus benefits.

It's 2022. Paying someone $20/hour is still considered living below the poverty rate. You won't be able to afford a home or retire on $20/hour. Healthcare costs and obtaining a college degree will also be out of reach.

Me too. The union is now more obsolete than ever.

The increase to $20/hour is not going to drive layoff decisions in other areas. The tens of billions of dollars we spent on spectrum dwarfs any impact by the $20/hour move. It is more likely we will use this as a reason to increase our pricing.
