Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Contractors

Contractors doing PREM work in some areas, supposedly cause T can’t hire anyone to fill the roll. TFS supposedly gonna get all fiber installs. AFOs getting reorg soon? Should roll all deviled into construction or TFS. Prem title should be absorbed. With inflation you get bargain Techs even moving PREMs to TFS.

Prem techs do "Sh-t" work because that's what their management forces them to do, under threat of termination. Of course they officially don't, but when you have such ridiculous time and quality constraint requirements, it's pretty understandable why they have the quality of work they do. Trust me, I've met many guys on the main contract who half a-s their work, and spend most of their day sleeping in their truck. Or if you do call in an I&R ticket, they still refuse to climb. Let's not act like half of your co-workers aren't lazy boomers.

As far as them working above pay grade to "Prove" anything, the reality is that the contract the union has with the company offers them virtually no protection, and the CWA has little to no interest in representing them. They just want their dues, and the workers know that. Meanwhile, the company is constantly putting the squeeze on these generally younger/new employees. You are incapable of critical analysis of a situation you're clearly familiar with and instead falling for the line both the CWA, and ATT push and are using to divide and conquer both of you. Luckily for myself, after leaving that awful company, I got a full time job making roughly 3x the pay I had with them. But you keep hating the youth because you're bitter boomie~

I left prem tech work to actually get a job with a real labor union. I do effectively less work for 3x the pay I got at ATT, and literally all of my medical care paid for.

As for the cringy boomer earlier in this thread, nobody is impressed you grabbed your ankles while your boss grabbed his bucked of lube. If you weren't such an uneducated inbred id--t, you may be able to realize that due to the inflation your generation kept voting for, you were printing the value of your money into near non-existence. Add into that the fact that you also have stagnated wages that are worth less every year, you have a workforce that stands to at best rent forever in this economy.

So your average worker these days still has to bend over for the boss man, but now doesn't even have the luxury of being able to afford a home. Homes were affordable in the 80s, and only more so. But if you want to re-enter the job market today with no resources and try to "Make it" while making 23 an hour, I'd love to see how long you'd last before you realized how full of sh-t you were when you wrote your post.

@1muz+1gl7YWYW You're referring to a "core" agreement which included all wage groups. Prems are in an addendum to the "core" agreement. Let's not let facts get in the way.

Wen I got hired in 1981 the boss said "We are looking for strong guys with big mortgages."
Perfect.
Mandatory roadies for storm damage. Long hours-and the line crew is a bit different" than PT work. Hooks almost always on. Filthy, muddy work.
100 hr weeks.
Bought my 1st new house at 24.
You had to earn respect, and if you complained to the boss he's tell you to GTFO of his office and get to work. Say anything more and you'll be pulling pole butts out of rear lot lines all winter.
Zero way you whiners would have made it. None.
You'd be fired or "invited" out to the pole yard for a "discussion."

There was a 2 tier wage system then as well.
Service Techs were the installers, linemen. Locators. Lower craft.
Systems techs were cable repair, Central office techs, power techs, etc. Top craft.
If one was new, they shut up, took the ribbing and learned.
After they upgraded all the Service tech to Systems techs, they soon started hiring "Comm Techs" at a much lower wage.
2 tier wages are nothing new.
Yea, I'm retired (at 55) but reading these posts about the self pity if laughable at least, pathetic at most.
It's a job.

You complain about prem techs burning out but then you call core techs who can last until their 80s babies. How about picking a side instead of fence sitting as the perfect money making cog for T to afford more management layers?

But.... But... But...? What about the union? They started this mess with a two - tiered wage system. Look at Harley, they did the same thing, and now they can't sell an overprice bike in the US. Contract the work out to Indian visa workers, and then call this product American made.

lol at "prem techs sh_t work", prem techs are leaving in droves, burned out by stupid metrics that are worthless and only serve to keep some made up position somewhere with 10 layers of useless management. Most have moved on to other positions from COVID dead and/or forced retired lifer positions that the company can't backfill quick enough or gone to other companies all together. The works is getting distributed among the lazy old fa-t bucket truck techs that sit on one bonded pair all day and complain about why they are now getting surveyed while also complaining about how they don't have enough work and need the prem work "roll eyes" and they too are now realizing they need to move on from a position that has essentially become a retail job where you go to the customer to get abused. T really thought they could get rid of the prem position until they realized it meant giving the work to the babies on the core side with their job security and grandpa diapers to wipe as they await retirement at 80.

Wire tech work=station work=service tech work(prior to the company creating the wire tech title). Company thought they could save some $, the U was stoked because more members=more $(they apparently didn’t care that the WT would be taking ST work). Oh well, guess it did it work out. While they’re giving wire tech work back to the Service techs where it belongs, they need to go ahead and get the uverse cr-p they’ve got BSIM doing now as well.

Currently being discussed to absorb prem in to tfs as they don’t have enough employees left to complete the work loads and employee’s are beginning to burn out

Sounds like the gravy train is over, techs are going have to earn their paychecks rather than full-time pay for part-time work! You just might get an onslaught of retirements based on the type of new work techs will be required to perform.

Because Prem techs generally do sh-t work.
They won't even take the time to run jumpers correctly or pull the dead ones.
Working above pay grade to prove they're "all that". The company enjoys it and laughs. This is why you'll never get upgraded. You do it for free.
This is why they get paid less, which is still too much.
10 year "know it alls", jealous of top craft with some seniority.
Butchering the plant, ratting others out.
Contractors do cra@p work as well, but it's cheaper.
This is 100% on PTs.
ZFG.

((Should roll all Techs into construction or tfs* ))can’t fix typos. How the he-l deviled ended up as a supplement for techs, idk, only with an iPhone on the anywhere network, all things possible.
