I noted one of the questions in the “ground breaking” survey mentioned “having fun”, I’ve also recently heard our manager mention having “fun” at work as well. Seems like some consultants have convinced XOM that this is a selling point lol.
Does anyone really have “fun” in their top list of job desires. How about competitive pay, flexible work options, increased pension and 401k options, true career development, retirement of the current PDS process, shall I go on…

Fun is overrated.
Thankfully, EM is not overrated. It's the tops and always has been.
Pretty young engineer here. I actually thought work was pretty fun for a while. Enjoyed TAs, and learning from awesome colleagues etc. The "pippening" definitely ki---d those vibes though.
The only fun I’ve ever had was getting strip searched in the parking garage by the rent-a-cops.
FUN........ HOLD-UP! HOLD-UP! HOLD-UP! there's no fun at XOM. We have a training module that has fun in one of the answers and it's an incorrect answer. There is no Fun at the O&A chemical plant in Beaumont management has seen to that. The large amount of overtime and made-up positions for the suck#%@s and good ole' folk has crushed the moral here.
The key to a successful workplace is not havening fun it's the enthusiasm and willingness to do a good job. People feel more of a sense of belonging when being considered in all aspects of their life. Hard work and knowledge of their job gives human beings a feeling of accomplishment and self-worth. Having time to share your life with loved ones and to be fulfilled with your job is essential. None of that going on here in Beaumont work and life balance is just not talked about. Most companies strive for that stability because it makes for a healthy environment.
It was once said in a meeting "sometimes it's a little hard for the medicine to go down" This is easy to say when you're the one holding the spoon. When the spoon holds something that is not so tasty it might be worth a look to see what is being feed. It may seem like medicine, but it sure doesn't smell that way.
Most people spend years trying to prefect their craft by working hard and trying to retain information that is passed along through education or work experience. Most people fill a sense of pride when ask their opinion on work related subjects. To be part of a team is human nature and makes people fill appreciated and needed. WE ALL ARE EXXONMOBIL. Right?
How do I achieve a safe and produce work site? The very first question in management 101 class.
Hours of tedium interrupted by moments of te---r. The only fun I have in my life is after I walk out the door and before I walk back in.
I used to get a lot of enjoyment from my work group and built many good relationships over the years from work. This current PIP culture is really taking its toll on that. Honestly, the place is miserable now.
I do not associate XOM with any kind of enjoyment or fun. It's becoming harder and harder to work for these MO--NS whom are refusing to listen to the employees.
