Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Can we just focus on innovation and being a great company?

I'm tired of hearing that trees are racist and about environmental racism.

Can we just deliver a great product to our customers.

I'm tired of this virtual signaling. We get it Charlie.

@2xet, it's obvious that there are parallels between a company ignoring that their customers actually want delicious greasy food and a company ignoring that their customers actually want financial products that make them money.

“this focus on ESG's reminds me of McDonald's adding salads to their menu. Nobody wants them but they're forced on us anyway.
I just hope good companies don't suffer the same fate as the burger joints where they're getting trounced by Taco Bell and their response is to offer stupid things like all day breakfast instead of switching back to good fries cooked in beef talon and ditching the tasteless cardboard fries cooked in some kind of heathnut’

The fact that you compare mortgages or any financial product that generates wealth to a Salad shows your intelligence. My GOD.

It's strange that you think showing support for people of color, advocating better climate policies, and being accepting of the qu--r community is seen as a bad thing to you... Gross.

It's such a relief to see many themes related to "performance artistry" on these threads - it's everywhere. Pretending to be busy or how critical one's work is, the whole RTO=collaboration charade, the lip service about performance and goals vs. the frenzy to slap them together last minute, and all those news-cycle related topics in forums and meetings where so many seem determined to signal to the rest just how outraged and motivated they are. Will bet many have had groups or managers that crow about performance management being a 24-7/365-day process - lol.

Back to the OP, the customer is an afterthought amongst all this business.

Sadly, don't think that kind of focus is possible these days - that sounds like a corporation based on optimizing shareholder value.

Instead, stakeholder value rules the roost these days, the evolution of socially-responsible investing. ESG score means everything so various environmental or social constituencies (nobody seems to care about the "G") compete or even supplant the needs of the shareholders. And so operational efficiencies, process excellence, etc. compete for oxygen with... well, you sit in all the special town halls and forums.

Invest wisely!

It's tragic to see what has happened to Wells Fargo.

What would the guys who rode and fought on the Pony Express think of this company if they could see it today?

Recent generations of "leadership" have dishonored the reputation of a once GREAT company.

The point management misses, daily, is that all this lip service is flat bu-----t without the actions behind it. And if you were walking the talk, so to speak, you wouldn’t have to flap your jaw so much because your actions would speak for you.

At every level this place is full of performance artists - people who talk about all the good they do and rave about all the skills they have but, in the end, produce nothing.

Wells Fargo has never been an innovator in any area. We lag behind big banks, small banks and even credit unions in the area of innovation, regardless of the spin we hear every town hall.
In fact, the most innovative thing we did was create fake accounts. And look where that got us.

Has Charlie lectured you guys about calling out BLM being like saying all cancer matters to br---t cancer awareness supporters? Or how his black friend invited him to a black meeting where someone told a story about feeling the need to introduce their kids to the local cops when they moved into a white neighborhood? He forced us to listen to that bee S in a town hall at BNY Mellon.

Innovation costs money and requires strong leadership.

Spewing platitudes to virtue signal is free.

To answer the OP's original question: "Can we just focus on innovation and being a great company?"

No. Obviously that is not where the focus is.

Wells Fargo plays these games so they can try to keep the progressive elites like Warren from frequently shaking the company down on CSPAN. It's an insurance policy for reputational risk purposes. I doubt anyone at the top believes it.

You mean you also thought it was a bit of a stretch to link climate change to racial inequity?

No. WF has to focus on RTO and trying to make everyone believe that CS is not a flaming racist.

We are in a 2+2=5 company. The company has been infiltrated, at the highest levels, by a bunch of people that have zero common sense.
