Say what you want about the corporate culture (like most here I think there's a lot of room to improve) but it's fascinating that details about recruiting, ranking, potential, and career progression from over 40 years ago are still accurate today.
Darren and his posse didn't join the company until 20 years after this article was written. There were multiple generations of managers who worked their entire careers under this system.
Thanks for sharing this article, OP. It helps me understand why senior management is so unwilling to change the way things are done, even in the face of the mass exxodus. They truly don't know any other way of running the company, which is why nothing is going to change until the day XOM eventually gets bought out or sold off.
