Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

AT&T union needs to Strike!!

I've been an AT&T Union employee working in a retail store for nearly 5 years I'm now capped out and cannot get any cost of living adjustment until the union and AT&T agree to a new contract which should have been done in February! Our CEO gets an 18% raise and millions of dollars in his pocket while the front line workers really get no benefit at all. The stress on employees is that their stores will be closed and converted into authorized retailers who are not properly trained and are complete disaster, we are constantly fixing their problems and dealing with all sorts of fraud issues that they create. AT&T needs to realize that going to authorize retail will hurt their business not help their business and treating their employees like partners in the business is the way forward to ensure the long-term growth and success of the company. If we can't get a reasonable contract let's go on strike!!

You would need a real union first if you wanted a union that actually fought for its workers and ever even thought about going on strike. The CWA is a fake union that works for management, not you or the workers.

this isn't a union organizing board. you'd think your union would have some place for this sort of discussion.

I have no interest in having to do your job in addition to my own.

CWA is not a real union, or at best a union with no teeth. They don't give two sharts about you, as long as you keep paying your dues every paycheck. Been with the company 25 years, and watched our benefits whittled away while the union stood by and did nothing the whole time. I was bullied by "senior" coworkers to join the union when I hired on, and bullied to stay in the union when I questioned the value I am receiving for my investment of union dies. I can't tell you how many times I've heard the phrase, "The union can't stop you from being fired or laid off if the company deems it necessary." That's just great. What is the union for again?

Workers won't strike. They know they have a sweet deal. Just a few people mouthing off.

why do you think att keeps so many employees around to do nothing. so they can use them as scabs and a bargaining chip when unions do strike.

if you do strike it will be a three day weekend strike like most of them.

Union won't strike.
They don't want to tap in to the interest bearing strike fund.
They "argue" and "bargain" with the company, then go out for fancy meals together on our dime.
Last real strike was in 1984 IIRC. 2 or 3 weeks. Of course there was no strike fund at that time. None of this day at a time BS.
The company's professional negotiators against our Union clerks, techs and CSRs.
How do you think it ends?
The union has lost their way, and become a political business.
Their only interest in you is your dues.
Contact the district reps and see what happens.
They don't have time for us peons.
I was involved in the union in various capacities for 35 years.
Its lost its way.
I don't trust the union any more than I trust the company.
Both are corrupt.

Union has no leverage. All they can do is collect dues, politicking, and propogate stale rhetoric

It's your union's fault. Tell them to take some action.

Why does a retail store need a union worker? Please strike so we can find out.

Your union doesn’t work for you. They work to further their national political agenda. Pay your dues, go back to work, and shut up. Their care for you stops at making sure you are capable of paying in monthly.
