Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Today was My Last Day!

So today was my last day after almost 5 years, I shipped my laptop back and I felt that I finally corrected my career path..... my exit bits of advice if you're reading:

  1. If you're a new graduate or an outsider thinking of joining ... my advice to you is if you have another option DON'T join ... if you don't have another option and this was the only offer you have then take it but treat it as a TEMPORARY station for max 1 year then jump out, you will NOT be able to build a career here!
  1. If you're currently stuck at the "no. 1 ranking as a great place to work company" and you're thinking to move out ... JUST DO IT, put a schedule and a timeline and jump ... you know the situation will not change ... unless you have a faith in Fran compensation plan ... if so you're in the right place!

Growth is painful, Change is painful, but nothing is as painful as staying stuck somewhere you don't belong.

Well done, congratulations! Never stay at any company longer than 5 years early in your career. Your best raises and advancements occur when you join a new company.

I also reached this conclusion recently, I interviewed for a couple of internal roles and noticed they have similar issues with respect to politics and misdirection. The last team I interviewed with two of their senior engineers left in the same week. Now I only check outside opportunities.

Cisco is a great place for some, not others.

You didn't/don't like it. Awesome. Don't assume your requirements are the same as everyone else.

It's difficult for college hires to obtain projects. This keeps them trapped at Cisco even longer.

Honestly, I agree with you 100%, but remember that your next job will not always be bullet proof. It might take some time, but eventually you will want to move on from there as well.
