Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Service managers being converted to bankers

Several service managers in my area given choice to leave or be demoted to a banker. Many branches going to a 1 manager system. Tellers still being cut. DMs pushing digital as the only option to staffing yet demanding we increase sales numbers to satisfy regional presidents pressure to look good on new branch P&L. Moral dropping daily, NPS suffering as customers getting more and more upset.

I don't wish anyone to be laid off, but why in the world would anyone work in a branch these days? They just aren't needed anymore. And Gen-Z only wants to use their phone. There is no future in branches.

I sincerely hope that you don’t work here. if what you are describing is true, it is difficult to see how you could work in financial services. So many of the stories you tell imply complete personal disorganization.

Is this a joke post?

Why would anyone go into a branch in 2022?

Is it near a retirement home or something?

Haha right. I don’t miss these interactions:
I lost my debit card (again) I need a temp card (glad we no longer offer those because some days I felt all I did was replace stupid cards)
But now all they do is call phone bank because people can’t keep track of their sh** and keep ordering from suspicious third party sites and get hacked or do the most d-mbest thing ever: leave their purse/wallet in their car. Smdh
Customers can do anything they need to do online with the exception of cashier’s checks/mo. But eventually I can see kiosks even doing that making the customers do it themselves. So yea, bye bye branches. Customers who don’t use online banking will just be out of luck.

Are you actually surprised? The writing has been on the wall for retail banking for years now, and it’s starting to come to fruition. I was a banker from 2014-2020 and even then people were saying it was a dying dead end profession. Tellers/Bankers aren’t needed. Heck, there are branches that have ATM’s as tellers now. Someone below made a comment about a BoA branch. My local WF literally has the doors locked from 9-5 with only the drive thru open. I’m assuming you have to make an appointment to get in, which I have been hearing nationwide because they literally just don’t have the desk staff to support all the customers coming in for d-mb stuff they could figure out online like filing a fraud claim. When I was a banker, we’d have 3-4 people waiting in the lobby for a banker while assisting other customers, and their blood would boil because they’d have to wait. Locking the doors avoids that.

@tpx+1grqnkXb -- you are wrong!! Quite a few WF branches are temporarily closed. Notes on doors suggesting other branches and maybe a date of re-opening.
Most likely staffing issues---read the other posts/topics.

Service Managers make more than bankers? No wonder the branches are falling apart.

Regardless of state they work in, Bankers are not making more money than service managers.

We can't "sales", but stack ranking and branch P&L are now daily topics. The pendulum has certainly swung the other way.

I went from Office of the President for Home Mortgage to call center banker for the bank. I guess I'll be laid off soon.

But, they said thank you for coming into work? And again. And again.

Truly tho, I’m sorry. That sounds awful and aligned with everywhere else here unfortunately. Water is filling fast.
