Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

What actions did you take in order to get the promotion?

I know that Exxon is no longer a place where it is advisable to think about growing a career or staying here for a long time, but while I am here, I want to advance in my career as much as I can. Any advice is welcome.

noticed my last supervisor wasnt getting attention from her hubby, so i gave her all that she needed at work and made sure we spent time at HH and some afterward. sometimes they just need a shoulder to cry and rely on. i ended up getting a 4 CL promotion, and shes now a CL 30 and now my sponsor.

About twenty years ago, I had a new hire colleague who was asking loudly the very same question like the OP. All experienced people were giving her a long look, saying without words: If you have to ask, it’s obvious you’ll never get it. She is a big manager now, but in another company, having quit after exactly five years.
That’s the way, OP.

As a fresh college graduate from a menority collage, I wore no pantties and the bosses were always mesmerized to the point of promoting me every year. Here I am today being called BOSS lady by all you geniuses that were hired from Ivy league schools and suking my hinde tites.

In some business areas, a membership in a US heritage religious group is a plus.
Even if you didn't go to The mainline school.
Personal experience speaking.

The old rule is XOM likes employees who get 12 hours of work done in 8 hours but works 12 hours. Your competition for the top of the rank group are workaholics or very efficient people who seem to get a lot done at office in 8 hours (but who are spending 2 or 3 more hours after the kids go to bed). Bottomlime...deliver great results efficiently or work alot of hours to offset your lack of effciency so you can deliver the same results as the efficient guy who works long hours. Many senior executives got to that level with routinely 60 to 70 hour work weeks.

Getting a sponsor is not easy but one advantage is being young and fairly good-looking.
Shake the money-maker.
That's what the sponsors did.

Get a sponsor or leave. It’s as simple as that.

How bout a real answer: brand yourself as an efficient, team-playing hard worker who takes pride in his/her hard work. Do that for 2 years and you’ll get a CL bump if you’re a new hire. You’ll have to work >45hours/week and have to work on weekends once a month on average.

Do that for 3-4 years while highlighting key improvements or closing money-losing vulnerabilities and you’ll get another CL bump. It’ll bring more responsibility where you can just keep doing that and advocating for your team and knocking opportunities out of the park will snowball into other opportunities.
