Everyone has their own opinion but I wonder how many people after being away from Cisco for more than a year and seeing the grass on the other side would return? I personally would never join anything that is attached to Cisco, but seeing how many of my ex-cisco colleagues posting on linked in, "we are hiring" and asking me if I would return makes me wonder ... how many would return? It used to be sort of funny in my old BU many people were leaving and returning a year later, but it was the old days. How is it now?

You described every org at Cisco. Over the years, I transferred orgs a few times and quickly learned that's Cisco culture. CX, Operations, Sales, Engineering.... it's all empire building and powerpoint

No! I've grown accustomed to being paid at market rate, doing real quality engineering, and expanding my skill sets in new areas. I simply couldn't afford to return to Cisco's poor comp, and wouldn't want to go back to poor quality, archaic engineering practices. It would be a step back and career su----e.
Sure why not? I'd negotiate a raise and immediately go back to what I used to do at Cisco: coast throughout the day. Practically everybody gets the LR sooner or later so I would just milk the cow dry as long as I could.

Since I joined Cisco in the mid-90s, I have left and returned 3 times, which included 1 LOA that expired, 1 ER and 1 LR. With each return I got a raise. The next time I leave will be the last & I won't return.
It would take a huge sign-on bonus and stock. The constant reorgs and layoffs aren't worth it.
ER in 2020, quite happy with my current position and company. Would not go back.
Not unless I have to. I left 2 years ago for the same job at another large company that offered 50% more than Cisco was paying. I now make double, not including bonus.
Cisco has good flexibility for raising a family, PTO, and insurance, but outside of that they are severally underpaying and undervaluing both blue and red badge employees.
Nope. ER in 2020 and would never go back after working in a smaller company that is growing at a good but managed rate. Better pay, better benefits. COVID handled properly with respect to all. Loved my time at Cisco but moving on is much better.
It all comes down to money. Most people leave Cisco because they undervalued, underpaid and have limited career progression. I've seen it countless times like you, that to get what you want in Cisco you are nearly expected to leave and then come back to get that payrise/promotion.
