Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Is it wrong to hope that my department will be next in line for layoffs?

And that I'll be among those affected?

I got laid off in 2021 with WFC. I was devastated when it happened and sulked around for a couple weeks, felt sorry for myself. But I got back up and took the salary continuation, worked a part time job and double dipped for like 5 months. Then after that I landed a role with a great company making more money, and I am really happy how everything turned out. So what I am saying it takes some time to get back going, but it will happen!

People like OP should be laid off, and not wish it on others. The reality is op will probably be spared; and the ones who want to stay will be let go.
It's unfair, and unfortunate.

I agree. Wells is going about this so wrong regarding the layoffs. They don’t care if talented hard workers quit or get laid off so why not offer the severance anyway and get this show on the road?!

It's not wrong. It's normal.

The fair and compassionate thing to do if they're trying to meet some "headcount number" would be to make a severance offer to all the people who are in the groups from which layoffs would be coming from.

That way people would indeed "self select" by accepting packages, and would be happy to go. Likewise, people who want to stay would not accept the packages and would stay.

That would go a LONG ways towards improving morale by cutting out people who don't want to be here.

I've been involved in these sorts of things at other companies, and it's always been for the better for everyone. Just as long as they don't drag it out over a long time. Needs to be a "once and done" thing.

I feel the same way as the original poster, but I am pretty certain I will be one that is retained.

It sounds good to be relieved from work, but it might be stressful if you can't find another job quickly.

No. But the problem is they’re laying off people who can’t afford or don’t want to be laid off but keeping people like you who would prefer it.
