Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Why are hiring managers/recruiters lying about this?

Why do you hiring managers/recruiters waste your time with interviewing candidates who do not live in hubs for hub positions when you know you’re not going to hire them anyway because they aren’t already in those locations, EVEN when the candidates say they will relocate there?! Just come out and say it: “We don’t want to bother with employees not already located in hubs but we gotta a interview quota to meet” Stop wasting their time. It’s becoming very obvious to employees who are applying to hub positions that even though they are willing to relocate on their own dime, that you don’t want them.
Anyone else experiencing this?!!!
And yes, we know it’s time to apply elsewhere btw, still doesn’t make what they’re doing less cr---y!!

Clearly the answer is to stop applying to any positions with this company at all thereby depleting the talent pool. Problem solved.

hiring manager here. it's hard enough to get thru the hiring process without creating "fake interview" to waste everyone's time... it just doesn't happen despite what all of the conspiracy theorists on this thread say. Nobody has time for it.

I don't agree with it but i'm not the decision maker on location - the fact is that every leader at OC+1 level has the authority to determine what locations they will or won't hire in, subject to the enterprise and OC leader constraints. if a job is posted in specific locations and you apply to it and are not in that location - then you need to be willing to move, and you can ask about - but aren't guaranteed to get - some relocation costs. Think about it as applying for work at a new company.

Hmmm. Hiring manager below Won’t waste time interviewing people they wouldn’t hire, but yet, employees are experiencing something different. This is very curious…

I can tell OP doesn't hire people. I don't waste my time interviewing people I'd never hire. Now if I'm hiring for a specific location and you won't move there but apply anyway, now you're wasting my time, but I've never refused to hire someone because they want to move to the location of the position and I doubt others do either. More than likely you just didn't make the cut and there were stronger candidates in the pool. It happens to all of us. Get over it.

Many times they already have a person in mind for the role but required per policy to interview other internal/external candidates. So, you need to be clear that you will only interview if that is not the situation.

The CAO is commencing a broad skills and capacity assessment. This to me is the start of a large directional change and reorg and/or layoff. This is one reason why many of the jobs are on hold, the other problem being recruiting issues.

As others have said, there is more than meets they eye here. Something is up!!!!

How is it equal opportunity when the hiring manager already has the candidate they want to hire picked out? It’s just smoking mirrors here. The hiring manager should be able to promote from within then without opening a req and wasting everyone’s time.

Right. So the good ole boys club. We get it. I get wanting to promote a person you want, I do. But then just be able to promote the ones you want and stop posting reqs for everyone to apply!!!! It is a waste of our time and yours as a hiring manager to have to post a position knowing full da*m well you have the candidate you want to hire. What a shiy thing to do getting hopes up for nothing. Fu you Wells Fargo.

it also isn't just about demographics but looking like you are being fair. there are many cases where the hiring manager already has the person they want but because we can just move someone into a role withoit fear of lawsuit they will post the req, pick at least one other person to interview, interview them, and make the offer to the managers candidate. if recruiters are so backed up right now why not just eliminate the dog and pony show and let me move my own people around, our sr management is able to do it so why can't the rank and file managers. what gets even more infuriating is when I can't give someone a mid year promotion but I can create a req for the hire position, interviews a few people and give it to my employee who I wanted to promote.

Look it’s no secret Wells Fargo is failing. All the signs are there. Leaders changing/leaving, layoff’s, selling off lines of businesses, etc. the co is in some serious shi* still with regulators and let’s face it the leaders don’t care about top talent or hard workers you are a NUMBER and they don’t care to even promote you unless you’re in their good ole boys club or as this post mentions: you already in a hub? Good. Great! Let’s hire you cause it’s easier that way then waiting for a candidate to move so the BS post below from the hiring manager is hilarious and shows how leaders don’t listen. Finally, if you haven’t waken up yet you better people. Leadership is rotten from the top down and when a co has bad leadership everything below them crumbles and falls apart, as we are all seeing and has been evident for years. If you are a career focused individual Wells Fargo is not a good co to work for UNLESS you are in their club and I wouldn’t even recommend beginning a job here to start out in banking since it’s so toxic. I guess it is a cult after all, Charlie was right.

I’m going to go scurry over to Chase, land a role, and after 6 months come back here and report to Jamie Dimon’s son in law in the newly created position, Not Sure What I’m Doing, But I Know The Right People And I’m Earning $$$$

Yeah, isn't if ironic that the company that preaches DEI (geographic location is supposed to be a diversity factor) discriminates and excludes qualified internal people from internal roles just because' they're not in a HUB. What a bunch of hypocrisy!

I lived in Denver for years, it was never a Hub. All my peers and others would raise issues with our director that you couldn't get ahead here unless you lived in Charlotte. The Director would get defensive, instead of listen. Yet they all preach DEI.

The fact is, this is 2022 and you don't need to be in a Hub to do a great job for almost all these roles unless you're in a branch or customer facing role.

Then if you're an internal person and want to take a new role, you move to the hub at your expense to get the job, not their dime. Another bunch of crock of BS! If you're the right person, they offer you the job in a Hub, they should pay for your moving costs! Cheap!

That's why I don't work here anymore! I just like to drop by every now and then to remind you all how bad this place sucks!

if you got the interview, and were transparent that you would move to a hub quickly on your own dime, then not being in a hub may not have been why you didn't get it. There's so many reasons why another candidate was stronger than you, you can't blame it on location if you said you'd move to a hub...

@umh+1gtbFNSi The irony here is that you are applying for a job that has specific cities that the job is posted to, and clearly not reading and/or respecting that prior to posting. If someone posts for a role that is listed in certain cities, and their resume says they live elsewhere, I as a hiring manager DON’T exclude them from the interview process, but do assume they are willing to relocate to at least one of the posted cities. And now I’m the villain in your story when I don’t hire you?

Getting a diverse candidate pool to make ANY hire is a requirement. They need you non-hub people in there so they can get a passing pool to hire someone in the hub.

All those self-ID boxes you check help them build a pool where as many options as possible are represented.

Fake interviews. Right. The last few interviews I had were off the wall questions not the typical stupid tedious and repetitive 5 (STAR) questions they normally ask. It all makes sense now.

Doesn’t matter what you know or what skillset you have; this company is all about the buddy system. If you are not in their circle then the odds of you getting that job is slim. It’s not about what you know but who you know around here. Sickening.

I'm in a hub & match the jobs I apply for pretty well. Hardly any (about 1 in 20) bites- and it's just a nibble. Something's up.

It’s one of those “no talent” things that the CEO made a comment about right? Instead of it being no black talent now it’s no talent outside the hubs right got it. We get the picture Charlie.

I had 2 hiring managers ask me where I was located and acted surprised I wasn’t in a hub. I didn’t get those jobs. But what I want to know is, Can y’all read a candidate’s profile before interviewing them? I mean it shows the candidates profile god people. I guess not. SMH

Going through the same sh*t . No response or consideration for non hub employees as if we are complete strangers . But well it motivates me to find a job outside of the firm and earn more . Cheers !

LMAO!!!! I withdrew from all the “hub” positions while waiting for final responses that didn’t come, which btw I NEVER got a response from one recruiter after emailing twice & asking for a follow up. I sat in “interview” status even after the hiring manager finally responded to me, 4 weeks later. No point anymore In trying for any promotions in hubs since I don’t live in one. Ah well. Buh bye Wells.
