PDS cycle question

I was rated outstanding with distinction last PDS cycle, and promoted as well. Neither my work assignments nor my focus was very good this year. Is it possible to drop more than two classes in the current evaluation system?

Does being rated outstanding with distinction mean there is a sponsor? Is that your SDM usually?

There are no limits to how far you can drop, if you p!ss off your boss. All safeguards were removed in 2020.

OP, your ranking will depend exclusively on who’s got your back (your sponsor) and how agressive the sponsors of your competitors are. Anything is possible, not because of your work but because of the backstage backstabbing.

If you got promoted, because of your ranking you may be in a new rank group. you could easily drop 20 to 40% when competing with more experienced people, especially if that rank group has alot of supv or managers.

To all who are hallucinating PDS has anything to do with your achievements or how much work you delivered: it has nothing to do with it, they just rank how much they like you and the others. If you were a good brownnoser this year too, do not fret.

It really depends on your relative performance than others in that team. You can generate same amount of work and end up in a totally different category because how much others delivered. If you haven’t done as much, that should be reflected in the outcome, so that another person who really put the effort can go up. (Thats the design - only time will tell whether it’s working or not the way it meant to be).

The 20 point protection is gone in the new and better (per those benefitting from it) process. Hence, year on year contract for all. Remember the CLO training last year that told us that performance assessment and PIP process is good for us all? Yeah, exactly why the company introduced the training only last year to give full power to those the represents other in the cranking process while telling the rest of us that the process is good for us all. CLO did a great job putting the training together for us all.

OP I was O and promoted last year. In a reasonable company if you stay in the same rank group, there is no reason to drop. If though you move to a higher rank group with the promotion, it is reasonable to expect a drop.
But we do not work for a rational company anymore. So yes, I expect to drop this year and likely the same will happen to you.

The person posting about HR and management having to review if you go up or down 2 levels...well HR and your boss are in the room when those discussions take place...they are ones making the call to move you. And, these days you can go from OWD all the way down to NSI in one year. Supposedly ranking resets each year.

So my 360 KO review of Durwood really doesn't mean anything?
That's sad.

Sure! I did exactly that 2020 to 2021, and with no explanation why. Confidence inspiring.

More than than 2 group rank level drops gets reviewed by HR and upper managment. You supv and managers will get grilled over the reason. If the reason does not make sense...then their RG drops. It insures balance

You can go from OwD straight to NSI. Your previous assessment is irrelevant in PA discussions.

If you get targeted, there are no restraints. Basically, same as contract basis.

Yes. They have eliminated the restrictions on how far up or down you can move from the previous year. The change was marketed as a positive thing (a way to allow people to move up quickly if they had an incredible year) but in reality, it made it easier to lay off people through the PDS process (without calling it a layoff).

@ejk is correct. In some of the T3 PA groups I have been in I have seen people move from E to G, from VG to NI in one sitting. I like the way the system resets the clock in that theoretically it is a clean page every year. That said the favoured MD track folks remain at the top end, without having to be held fully accountable for what little time they spend in each job.

Has been happening in Annandale since spring of 2020, you can move right to NI or NSI in one cycle. Especially if you’re RE, good luck management lies

There is no limit for movement with the new ranking levels, I have seen people drop from O to G last year. In the old system you generally didn't move more than 8-10 RGP but in the new system no limits for up and down although that seems to apply more for dropping vs going up...
