Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Worried how things will look after the layoffs

I was quite surprised when my colleagues were laid off because we were overwhelmed as it was. Top experts were cut. Now what? I really don’t know how things will work without them who were doing a major chunk of work and I’m a little worried. There will certainly be much more pressure on survivors so we will have to seriously start looking for other opportunities.

Some may be missing the point I am afraid. This is as much to do about health care insurance as it is about pension and of course we know most who are pensioners are typically older. If you were hired as a 4th quarter compensated rock star and are 35 years of age or younger I think you will be okay as long as you perform. There is a reason why they threw all the salaried retirees who were younger than 65 off their own health care and moved them to the ACA Plans the open market offer.

Ford self insures and younger folks overall don't use health care insurance as much 55+ employees do.

This is all about costs and the disruption from EVs is going to impact profits since EVs are necessary to meet EPA regulations this will play into solvency of the Big 3 in the next few years. Throw in supply chain issues for parts and chips and increased battery costs you can see where this could very well end up.

Lot of sleepless nights for CEO's at Detroit's auto makers.

People, your performance will have nothing to do with it from this point forward. These checkins will assure that. Going forward it will all be about your total compensation cost to Ford, irregardless of your performance. If you're this latest and greatest rock star software engineer who negotiates a jaw dropping salary, you'll too be targeted once Ford thinks they can replace you with cheaper labor.

This type of approach is only the beginning and will eat away at the core until ALL the pensioners are gone for starters. But we've done it to ourselves as well from the standpoint that there is A LOT of deadwood in these ranks- those that refuse to up skill, work avoiders, and sadly those that have been just flat out beat down over the years. So from certain points of view, I can't blame those milking this thing for everything it's worth, while holding out for the golden SIRP payout in the end.

For the young bucks, be smart and see the writing on the wall. I know you're invited to every 'Next Gen' event on the face of the planet, told you're the future, think you're exempt from cuts, etc. You're not... Your day is coming too - you just don't realize it yet. Don't get caught in that over 40/stayed too long at one place vortex holding out for the next promise made to you. This new quarterly check in process makes it that much easier... For Ford.

Everything I have seen and heard was people with the most experience, pensions, etc... were being let go, unfortunately. They're forcing more cr-p down onto people who have remained and just stressing people out completely. I know several people who are having anxiety/panic attacks over the past couple of years, but this does not help. There are multiple people that I've talked to who are actively or are going to start actively looking for work outside of Ford. The people that say they are remaining is simply because they are older, don't want to try to start over, and or have pensions. The younger group, the Millennial group without pensions, are definitely looking because they are not wanting to tolerate this constant doom and gloom along with getting slammed with more work from mismanagement.

Wonder how it will look?

You seen the posts here and the national news coverage of Ford recalls and botched new product launches? Well, there's gonna be a whole lot more of them.

The folks who got cut this week were the most experienced. The folks who are going to leave in the coming months are the ones who are the most competent and take initiative. I fear for the ones who stay. Ford won't have a chance in the coming years since they bled all the talents and won't be able to attract anyone competent in the coming years.
