If you are fired, is there anything that's stopping you from presenting it to potential employers as having been laid off? I know of a lot of good people who were PIPed for no good reason and subsequently fired, I'd hate to think the fact that EM wanted to get rid of them without paying them severance is now creating issues for them in finding new employment.

@OP - nope. Just claim that you were laid off. EM aren't going to correct anyone and your new employer probably won't check anyway.
P-I-L was great. 3 month paid vacation plus vacation pay out! Could not provide the PIP with signing your intent form. Made the decision much easier!
They should have took the PIL and not played the PIP-roulette game.
