Looking at tech risk roles at Wells…need advice

Hi all, i’ve been reading posts and let me tell you that i work at another bank and grass is not greener…trust me!!! RTO is also a nuisance where ever you go. So I see many tech risk jobs posted and before i try apply, was wondering if anyone can give me insights. I got some friends in marketing so they could only tell me where the jobs sit…one is in tech control risk CTO but don’t recall manager name, one in independent enterprise risk under Kolathy, and another in audit under Shaheen. Another in tech control TI (what is TI?). Many jobs in these teams but curious about each team culture, happiness level, professional growth opportunities. Appreciate honest guidance please!

Come on…. If you are overpaid and do nothing, getting an all expenses paid trip to NY is like an extended and paid holiday….

@3mzn+1gv5rhl - the situation with asset cap is not the result of tech testing or the lack thereof.

We are speaking about Tech Control as a viable career option for the poster . The answer should be pretty clear by now even after this thread has been purged of many entries considered to contain PII.

Unfortunately, we apparently do still need all those checks because we are dvmb enough that we are still not getting it right. We do STILL have an asset cap.

There are lots worse banks to work in than Wells. Trust me, you have no idea.

Forget the slander part . Can someone explain why we have a control certification team in TC and then an issue verification arm. Did I mention EBCE testing . All within one part of the first line . And then we have a second line and for many issues , a third line check too. How many checks do we need ?

Don’t scuttle some honest exchange of information . TC has lost its way and that is the truth.

Please don’t use this thread for bashing your own managers, that’s not what OP asked. PII/slander is not allowed here, site mods could nuke the whole thread

‘Many jobs in these teams’

Well, OP, from the answers below….. I trust you understand why there are so many jobs in these teams. Nobody is d-mb enough to apply to them internally and they are leaving faster than we can hire.

Your immediate task on day 1 will be to help relief the 15-person workload from the only 4 who have not left. As since they aren’t hireable anywhere else, this work assigned to you would not have done in a proper or competent manner.

You will spend the first 2 mths dealing with multiple dumpster fires, before you get a ‘needs improvement’ mid year rating.

You will ask for training, then be surprised that we do not provide any external training at all. We don’t even pay your prof sub fees, until we make you jump through multiple hoops.

Nobody does anything, but it’s always Tech Control’s fault. If you are any half competent, you will be tasked to deal with these, but it’ll always blow up because you will have no authority or resources.

You will largely find that it’s you doing all the work, while you have 10+ id1ots ‘reviewing your work’, much of them contradicting each other (e.g. person A asks u to remove a paragraph, person B will ask you to add it back in).

Everyone will mess up and miss their own established deadlines, but it’ll always be your fault.

Then you realise that the 4 people who hadn’t left are still there, still not doing any work but somehow, it’s not their fault but all yours.

You will probably just leave after 1 yr or so….

Don’t waste your time, unless you want a first row seat to epic incompetency and cronyism……

I work with one of the TC teams mentioned in the replies. What I can’t believe is that what I think is apparently common knowledge and that it’s so common there are multiple replies mentioning them. Wow.

OP - really, I would keep looking.

In Audit, no quota for issues. Heck, we then have to validate?? Would rather fix gaps during the audit. We shouldn't find lots of them anyway, based on framework of three lines of defense....🙄. Lots of attrition but are some good managers (not very familiar with IT team, can't give visibility there).

It is easy to rank the three departments in the order of worst to decent

  1. Audit under Shahee.. very much the most unqualified and inept group. Raises no issues at all and is unable to do any real work. She is herself not a qualified person coming in from RBC. Pls avoid
  1. IRM: very much the next worst . No direction. Unqualified manager . Junior staff spending time on PPTs
  1. TC - the groups with are trying to get some where because a director or senior manager is trying hard and many are just ok. It is better than thE the other two groups but it I a draw of luck. The CTO group believes in fictitious labels to describe what they do. The analytics group tries harder to do real work . Similarly some groups do some real work in pockets. Recent departures are harming them too

The so-called independent risk under the person you named is the best joke of the day.

the others in TC are all generally unqualified people at the top trying to make some progress. The mid and officer level people are a lot better but they get hit by id--tic thinking at the top.

Don’t just run sprint. Sprint like a bear is chasing you and all you have to do to survive is outrun the person behind you. Okay?

Run. Trust me.

I created this mess.

I installed all the useless people in the TC function back on 2017. Most of them were unqualified for their roles, and were not hireable anywhere else.

I’m now ruining it for another bank.

RUN do not walk, I'm in one of the ones you mentioned but will not state which obviously, we are routinely told to pass failed controls and the place is an absolute mess about accountability and ownership of any problems, you become afraid to question as you'll get in trouble from your manager, I'm 2 years into a lawsuit for retaliation, the judge just denied their request for a summary judgment as the case has merit. RUN DO NOT WALK away from any offers.

Have you lost your ever loving mind?! You obviously don’t pay attention to the hate the culture, lack of opportunities and layoff posts that are prevalent on this site. Please seek help.
