Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

Why don't they offer voluntary layoffs?

I know a lot of people who'd be more than happy to accept. Especially those who are not that far from retirement. That would give UHG what it wants - fewer people on the payroll - and it would save the jobs of those who want to be here. I'm not sure why layoffs would be needed at all at this point, but if they are, this would be the way to go.

They don’t want to pay out severance or unemployment. Their method is give bad review then later In the year terminate you for that mystery reason. It’s a win-win for them.

lol they do not want to pay severance and or any kind of a retirement package. They are CHEAP except for executive excess. They want you to quit. Voluntary layoff with what perks? oh unemployment they do not want to pay that either.

UHC has a history of forcing out older employees in order to hire younger employees with lower salaries. Much cheaper than paying a severance package for 20+ years of service.

Companies would rarely do this when they know they would lose a lot of the people who keep things running. In every group there are usually 1-2 of these per 5 people or so. When cuts are needed, they tend to want those other 3-4 people to take a hike, unless losing some of their real 'doers' simply can't be avoided.
